Panasonic microwave oven model NE-7850 (700 watts) purchased in 1983 and still running. Replaced light bulb, fuse, turntable belt (turntable belt was the most recent replacement, July 2009.) I love the layout of the touch pads, it just has four buttons for time entry. 10 minute, 1 minute, 10 second, 1 second. So if you wanted 5 minutes and 30 seconds, you would hit the 1 minute button 5 times and the 10 second button 3 times then start. Six power levels. Auto Cook, Auto Defrost by weight. Push button pull handle. Built solid and very heavy. Quiet. Realizing this thing wont last forever I replaced it with a Panasoinc NN-H965B but hanging on to the old one. The new Panasonic can't compare to overall quality of the 26 year old model. Already I don't like the push to open button under the touch pads. Door gets all finger prints from just closing the door and it's black, not stainless. Very noisy fan, way noisier than the old one. Very hollow sounding when closing the door and light in weight. Closing the door pushes the whole oven back if it's not against the wall. It has a good button layout and is not confusing but display is not as clear and looks washed out (especially when not viewing the display at eye level, this is a countertop model so you do look down at it). I know I'll never get 20 years out of it but I'll have the old one to fall back on.

I have never found a "good" site with reviews on used appliances. I do not think anybody maintains such a site, anyway. Searches for that turn up only shopping redirection sites and sellers of used appliances where the reviews are only about what great guys the vendors are. You have to go back to "vintage" appliances to find anything like you are asking about. As lee76 says, you are better off just running searches on the fridge model number. You may find reviews of what people thought of it when it was being sold. Consumer Reports --- you will have to go to a library to find old print copies.CR's online archives only go back about 4 years or so. A search also will turn postings on various sites like fixya where people have had problems and are trying to fix the unit. That may at least tell you something about what goes wrong with the unit and how hard it is to locate the parts.

I will try to get some photos that really show the windows. They are single-hung aluminum sliders in standard sizes. Unpainted, so the inside window frames are permanently grungy-looking. The weird thing about these windows is that each half of the window is a two-pane TDL, horizontal split. The overall effect is two narrow slats of glass on top of each other, with a very thick muntin between them. Certainly not something I've seen elsewhere, but it's *UGLY* and really gets in the way of seeing out the window. The part of me that values historical fixtures for their own sake likes them, but the rest of me hates them. The outside view of these windows is that of normal white aluminum triple-track storms. I *think* the storms were added in the 1970s.. they are boring but work okay. The basement windows are side sliders and in much worse shape. Several NEED to be replaced; if I was to keep them original that would involve salvage from another house. Interestingly, the ductwork in my house (high wall returns) strongly implies that the house was built with central air in 1955. That is plausible - it's a spec house, but whoever originally bought it selected ALL the "upgrades". The only thing that makes me hesitant about using the original fridge is that it's manual defrost and I *know* I won't get around to doing that. The only thing that makes me hesitant about using the original stove is that it's single-oven, and the dual-oven 1970s stove that we have in there now is *SO* nice to have.

What a great question! I packed a lot of things into my recent bathroom reno, but one of the things that really makes me happy is the charging spot for the toothbrush, etc. I wasn't sure anyone else thought of it, but the last thing I wanted was to see a bunch of cords cluttering up a pretty vanity. In fact, I was planning to buy a Water Pik, but waited until I had this thing in! And I think I'll add a Sonos here too. I like the medicine cabinet idea as well. In truth, this really is a super deep cabinet for medicine, towels, and such. if you have a place where you can keep your tray, that would be ideal. Perhaps a little towel to catch any drips too. Oh, I got the cordless WaterPik, so that might be different if you have the other kind. Good luck! I'll be interested to see what others have done.
