Please Show Me Your Tile In Bathroom/Shower
Comments (36)Hopefully this works. I have two baths we just finished. The master is Daltile Brancacci with the resin chair rail and floral listello Fastfloors.com had this for 1/2 the price as special order from home depot. You have to call them though after you get your order set up to fix any shipping issues (they do each type of tile as a seperate order so shipping looks much worse than it really is until you call them). The other is our kids bath with 4 1/4" plain white tile and 2" cobalt blue glass from mirage tile. Note that the glass tile is thicker so you will have to put down more thinset behind the remaining tile and the grout joints around the glass will be larger due to difference in tile sizes. Comments (7)I have a dark kitchen floor (it's Amtico vinyl "wood" planks in Priory Oak (really gorgeous, hard to believe it's not real wood), and it does show light colored debris, there's no where for it to hide. But let me tell you, with 7 kids immaculate floors are not a priority! That being said, this is a girls bathroom and there will be a lot of dusty things flying about. Yesterday I spent about an hour on the Armstrong website's "Design a Room" program and put different floors in different bathroom settings, and you could even change the cabinet and wall colors, just to get an overall idea of the effect of various colors. I was very surprised that a lovely, subtle checkerboard light gray/medium gray floor looked absolutely blah with the colors I had picked. However, a black and white checkerboard really popped. I love the checkerboard look, wanted to put it into my kitchen but I was afraid to. I only have a sunroom left, I can checkerboard that one if I don't do the girls bathroon (so this isn't my last chance). A black floor also looked great. The Flexitec flooring is already set at an angle, but the fake grout has a beige cast to it... here is the link to the Armstrong black "stone" floor. The grout lines are thinner, so there isn't a texture to the floor. That could be a good thing? I loved the black penny tile floor, it is a stunning effect. And I bet they have to work to keep it looking so fabulous. I'm now so torn about the granite-vinyl dichotomy. I hae to keep reminding myself that real tile is more of a maintenance issue in my house due to the constant shifting of my foundation. We have wall/ceilling cracks everywhere for a few months, then they disappear, then we have a huge storm, and the cracks return. But grout damage doesn't go away and gets worse over time. I guess it's a part of living in Texas. And hello Monicakm! Thank you for all of your replies so far, they've got me thinking. I'm heading back to the flooring store this morning to pick up more samples. Have a great day! Comments (12)ummm, I haven't any. I put up bn look command hooks for the wet towels on the face of the shower as a temporary measure until I could decide on what to get. I only have one place (in that huge bathroom) where I could hang a bar, but the area ended up being a few inches narrower than I thought and am worried about it (a bar) encroaching on the space where the toilet is. I've got my eye on the tp holder that matches the faucets. It's brushed nickel and since it would be on a painted wall, i think it would look better than the orb. But can't commit until I decide about a towel bar for sure and the matching towel bar sets out too far from the wall for that space. So I am pretending that someday I'll figure it out - until then the tp sits on the back of the toilet. I am the only user, so it's fine....See Moreplease can you help me fix up this bathroom (pics)?
Comments (15)kjmama, I've just spent the last couple of days putting the finishing touches on my renovated bathroom (regular little bathroom, but it looks much prettier now. I'll post pictures soon). Anyway, I wanted to say that I think it's really important to work out a clear "vision" for your bathroom before you start shopping. You need to decide on a style (vintage cottagey? organic spa? glamourous hollywood? whatever you like...) And decide on a color scheme -- I'd suggest two main colors and an accent color. I assume since you painted the walls pink, that you made that choice with a certain look in mind. And pink will be one of your main colors. Are you looking for something feminine and pretty? If so, I would suggest painting the vanity a creamy white and adding sparkly knobs. The curvy mirror would work great with that look, as would the armoire. You could do a lot with vintagey accessories (like crystal perfume bottles). And I'd suggest picking a piece of art that really captures the feeling you are going for. What about that Degas painting of a woman drying herself after a bath? The key is to decide on your look and then really commit to it. Good luck....See Morescottie mom
