All devices in a network are assigned "addresses" and they're kind of like your street address. When you're friend sends you a letter, the Post Office looks at the address on the envelope and delivers the letter. The Internet (and your local network) works pretty much the same way. Your computer (or in this case, Novel) is assigned an address and the network uses that address to send data to your Novel.

Typically most home routers default to DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) which is just a fancy way of saying the addresses are handled by the router rather than you applying a static (fixed address). There's nothing wrong with a static address but you, as the user, have to make sure that two devices don't have the same address. Imagine the confusion for letter carriers if you had the same street address as your neighbor!

I've never used a PDN but you'll want to set it for DHCP. You'll also need the password of your wireless network.

Thanks Mike, sorry, but I'm still confused. I should erase it out of the Static and enter it in DHCP? Also, could you tell me, I can't remember how I found my information on my computer....the IP address, subnet Mask, Gateway,DNS?????

I really have no idea why it would be doing that, did it just start to do that or is it doing that from brand new?

Have you done the latest firmware update from the pandigital site? if not that may help the issue. What was your firmware version on your unit currently?

When it shows your network if you click directly on it will it not show up the password box to type your password in? Mine will do that where it shows my network then says not in range remembered but if I just wait a few minutes it will pop it up as connecting then getting the ip address and it connects.

They do have a tech support number you can call them they are usually very helpful.

Raven, I was able to get connected originally, but I haven't been able to ever since I thought I was having problems and I re-seated the internal memory card. As it turned out, there wasn't anything wrong, it just needed to be charged. It retained all my information that I had put in manually. My current firmware version is S10_08_20_B3_PD_INX7E_ENG_6410POP
I haven't done an update because I've never gotten a notice, as you did, that I needed to do one. Don't know how to do one, if I need it! What do you think?
I've never even used the wi-fi yet. I downloaded the books to my computer and then loaded them onto the PDN.

they don't usually send out a notice for the firmware it is up to you to visit the PDn site and look for new firmware updates to install. the directions for how to do the firmware update is on the page where the firmware is located, I would do the SD card method (option 2). You want to make sure you get the firmware for the white US unit if that is what you have. You want to do the update with the unit plugged in so there is no chance of battery failure. Power off the unit(make sure you see the power off dialog), insert the sd card with the update on it, do not open the zip file at all just put it as it is on your sd card then insert sd card in slot,Where it says to hold the power button and the volume button at the same time you need to hold it longer than they say hold it till you see the little android icon and the unpacking bar, it will not go fully across the bar but it will reboot, then check your version number to make sure it now has the new firmware.

I worried when you said you had re-seated the internal card that sometimes has caused problems. It may be that you will need to return it and get a new one if the firmware update does not do the trick. You want to be able to use the wifi so you can surf and do email and that kind of stuff.

All the directions on how to do the update and all other info can be found on your unit in the library in the book there that is the user manual, read it all.

ok interestingly enough I just had mine do the same thing, it would show the networks around me including mine and say remembered not connected on mine. I have been out of town and when I leave I shut down all of my computers and routers.
what had happened was that things did not get booted up in order.
so shut down all your computers, disconnect your modem and router from the power. wait five minutes, then in this very specific order power up, first the modem let it get fully lit up, next the router let it get fully lit up, then boot up your computers main first etc. Then try your PDN and see if it will find and connect. it may take it a few minutes.
Mine did and is working perfectly again. when it does not get powered up in that order sometimes devices can not get assigned the IP address for the network.

Thanks Raven, I did the update and now it connected just fine! I don't know what is going on. I'm afraid to turn off the wifi! You had mentioned before to turn it off when I was just reading. I sure appreciate you helping me with this thing. I've never set up a mail account because I didn't want another e-mail addie. I have 2 already, but I would like to be able to do the B & N via the PDN.

you do not have to set up another email it will fetch your email from where ever you have it. mine is set to get my hotmail, just put in the username and password.
I am able to do the B&N from the PDN with no problem but I do have an account there you must do that to use it.

I've connected to WiFi with a bit of trouble because it took me awhile to figure out that the "shift" key acts like a SHIFT key rather than CAPS LOCK. So I had some case issues with the password.
I've started reading Little Women which came preloaded.
I've become addicted to Link Up.
I've browsed B&N for some true crime books written by my fourth cousin once removed.

Next I'll get an SD card and do the upgrade thing.

I ended up getting the flu and have been in bed bundled up and that PDN sure has come in handy to keep me occupied.

be sure you check out feedbooks for some very good free books, I have a library full of books and have only paid for one. And of course Barnes and Noble has a nice selection of free books also.

Excuse my hopping in here, but so far I haven't paid for a single book and have several more in my library waiting to be read. One of my daughters gave me a B & N ebooks gift card, so now I can buy something I probably wouldn't have considered. Thanks, Brenda.
