The problem is, even 16x19 cut in half yields less than 8x10 which is 2 small rooms, even without a bath and closets...

You might be able to use the closet space itself as a room divider to create 2 more private areas within the single bedroom....

One of the bedrooms in our house is 9' x 12' (not counting the closet). In it, my son has a loft bed with a comfy chair below, a small desk, an armoire, and a bookcase. It seemed like plenty of room when he was 8; by the time he was 15 (and almost 6 feet tall) it felt pretty cozy. Two guitars, two amps, a snowboard, a unicycle - not much room left at all!

Before kids, we had a double bed in the room, and nothing else - there wasn't room for anything else.

I think I would rather find a way to make one bedroom work for two kids than to cut a room into tiny spaces.

You probably would be better off enlarging your design (or existing home, if already constructed), to provide two properly sized bedrooms, each with closet. The existing bath is very small and utilitarian, but could be shared by two children at least until they become teenagers.

You could certainly do some creatively designed furniture, with raised beds, utilizing the floor space under them, much as ankh describes, but as the children age you will encounter the same issues she mentions.

Trying to create two separate rooms as you describe, within the existing space, is probably not a good idea since each will be so small as to be closet-sized. Such a design will not really support your children as they grow. Odds are, such a design may actually lower the value of your house, and it's resale potential, since there may be very few people willing to either buy it and use it, or buy it and remodel it.

How high are the ceilings? How big are the kids?

If you have high ceilings and medium sized kids you could try dividing the room horizontally, creating a loft. A kid might think a loft bedroom was neat, and you can stick another bed or a desk underneath the loft.

Not good for small children who might fall or large teenagers.

I'd post the entire plan, so we can see how the rooms work together.

If you make bedrooms that small, they may not be up to code. However, as mentioned earlier, you can divide a room up with shelves or closet space...and remove it later, if necessary.

Cheap and easy would be a sliding wall partition between the two spaces. Not necessarily soundproof, but it would take up the least amount of space and offer a bit of privacy.

VC, you should've called me out for posting idiocy. If you cut a room that's 19x16 in half, you get two rooms that are 9 1/2 x 16, not 10 x 8. Sheesh!

The problem with trying to fit 2 bedrooms and a bath in the space is mainly because of doorways to separate the rooms and a hallway to gain access. If you have a single bedroom with a divider, then the doorway situation is eased substantially.

2 rooms that are 13x9 1/2 are actually pretty decent rooms. Not grand, but decent rooms for kids.

amberm - Once you put the doors to the rooms in your design, I don't know that the beds and nightstands would fit.

I don't know if the windows + bath can be moved but I came up with something. The walls are 4,5", except b/w the closets which is 3". Doors are 30" wide.
