I used the Reset and it turned off. But when I checked, I still have update version S10_09_23_K-PD. So I guess I'll try using the SD card method of update. That will have to wait until I return from grocery shopping.

grandms, I think it was Raven who told me that you have to hold the buttons much longer than 5 seconds. Give it a try and see if that helps.

yes you hold both buttons till you see the little android unpacking icon then it will have the bar going across showing it is doing it's thing, will not go all the way however before it restarts it. The full directions on how to do it are on the thread here at GW it is the original thread about the PDn.

Okay, I held both buttons for about 20 seconds and then the unpacking icon showed and the bar was going across. I released the buttons and the error icon showed again. So I tried another time and held the buttons even after the bar was going across. This time the error icon showed while I was still holding down the buttons. It still shows the old date. So I'm guessing that maybe my download is corrupted.

I did the download to the SD card, and it is updating just fine now.

that can and has happened before that the update gets corrupted, in fact my first try at this update failed so I will have to download it again also.

Also always make sure you are getting the appropriate update for your PDN if you have the white one get the update for the white, black has a different update and they do not work on the wrong one.

How do you know if you need an update? I haven't done anything with mine since I got it.

I received an e-mail from Barnes and Noble telling me, so I went to the Pandigital site and found it.

You probably don't _need_ an update, but the updates may help with some functionality. I've read that some versions of the firmware were slow on wifi and had a tendency to drop connection a lot. I think the latest update speeds some things up a little bit (I haven't installed it yet, just going by something somebody posted on another forum).

As bpgreen said you do not have to do the update there have been several firmware updates some people have done them some have not. Mine works great as it is so I may or may not do the update.
to find out what firmware you currently have on your unit click on settings then keep hitting the right pointing arrow till you get to the page with that info.
Be sure anytime you do an update that you get the one for the PDN you have white has a different update than the black version.

Oh dear, now I really have problems! I've been having it act like it is stuck and not wanting to turn the page. Sunday I was visiting my grandson, who is 11. He was playing the link game. He was in the same room with me and I know he didn't do anything with the PDN. When I went to use it it wouldn't come on. When I got home I did the reset with a paper clip, it came on just fine. Then last night, after my posting, I was reading and turned it off to go to bed. It turned immediately off, didn't have the message...."powering off". This am when I went to turn it on, after it booted up, the message "powering off" came on and it shut down. I have tried the re-set and it continue to do the same. I hope I don't have a lemon! Should I re-seat the memory card? Also, what forum was someone referring to? I found a site "Good e-reader", thinking maybe they might be able to help. I only have about 4 or 5 books....don't keep the wifi on.

Well, I did re-seat the memory card. It seemed okay anyway. Got the same thing when I turned it back on, so I decided maybe it needed to be re-charged since it evidently didn't turn off when I turned it off, although the screen did go black. Sure enough, I plugged it in and it came on. Now my problem is that it won't connect to my wireless router. It remembered all the information that I had entered via "manual" but I can't find where I'm supposed to put my password. I remember when I first got it I didn't know where to enter the information and evidently finally got it right cause it started working. Help!!!!

yes it needed to be recharged when you turn it off sometimes if you do not hold it quite long enough it just puts it in hibernate mode and it still uses the battery you must make sure you hold the off button so that the power off dialog comes on then you know you are fully turning it off.

to put in your password go to settings then to the network area and you can do the manual set up there, it should ask you for your password though if it tries to connect and it has not remembered it. When you do the firmware updates it wipes out all that stuff too so you have to re enter it all each time you do a firmware update.

There really is not much of a way to brick the thing that I have heard of, you can always just reflash it back to what ever firmware you want and start over. I have had to do the reset with paper clip a couple of times. when you said re-seat the memory card do you mean the internal one as in you opened up the back of the unit?

the forum I go to is the slatedroid forum for the PDN however they are very much a group of advanced users there, they have created some awesome hacked firmware that can make the PDN do all kinds of neat stuff, they have created a special wiki with lots of info.

Well, it is good to know that I don't have a lemon. You are right, it must not have turned off all the way. I will be more careful. Yes, I did re-seat the internal memory card, per a print out that came from BB&B but like I said it retained the information that I had put in on the manual settings and it doesn't ask for my password. I don't really understand the information that I put in in the first place, it was actually trial and error. Maybe if I write it all down and then erase it all maybe it will let me start from the begining.
Right now it says "Wi Fi is on, not connected" Then under Wi-Fi networks if says the name of my network and underneath that it says "remembered, secured with WEP". I remember I had that same problem before and I don't know what I did but then it worked!!!!! Wish I had a memory!

I think maybe you had gone in and done the manual set up using the manual button on the network page. Have you tried just tapping on the name of your network that it shows there and see if it will pop up asking for your info? Mine does that sometimes I have to tap on it and then it takes a minute and then pops up as connected and getting an IP address.
