Outlook Express Errors

I'd really appreciate any help for a problem that's driving me crazy!

Have been happily using OE6 for years, no probs, but suddenly, whenever I try to create mail, forward or reply, get an error message: "There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred."

Likewise, when trying to open my Address Book, get the message "Unable to open the Address Book. The Address Book may not be installed properly."

I tried to install a newer version of OE, only to be advised that I'm already running the latest version!

And strangely, I'm still able to receive emails without problem...

Am running NT 2k, and this problem occurs whether I'm in IE6 or Firefox.

Any advice most gratefully received!

thanks for that link, but looks like I'm in more trouble...when I go to Find...Files/Folder, I'm instructed to "insert the Microsoft 2000 Premium disk and click OK"...I don't have it, having inherited this computer and no disks many moons ago, in another life....just might have to learn to love Hotmail, I reckon!

try getting malwarebytes and update it then run full scan. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Owbist, I think you just fixed my problem. After becoming stuck on the deleting of the temporary files.....I skipped over a couple of steps in the repair kit. I read the part which about when suddenly messages that you sent are no longer being sent to the "Sent Folder". That is exactly what is happening here. The first step to try....was to compact all folders. That fixed my problem! I am no longer sending multiple emails. Sent emails are going to the Sent Folder. Wow.....this is great !! Do you think I should go back and complete the removing of the temporary files even though it seems my problem is solved? Owbist....I cannot thank you enough. This is the best computer help website on the internet. The Computer Help Forum has gotten me out of many jams. I thank everyone who comes to this forum.....and special thanks to all who provide suggestions and solutions. Larry

Update: I just called her on the phone. She does not use Outlook. She uses something like ATT Yahoo for her email. When she goes into Programs....and tries to open Outlook Express, she gets some message that mentions there is an error....and goes on to talk about a POP server....and other things way over my head. I suggested that she call her provider for some help. It was over my head. I thank you raven and Bob for your messages. Larry

This just happened out of the blue? Hope you are not using a registry cleaner of some sort they cause more problems then the resolve.

Shaxhome,

If you haven't done it already please take a minute to backup your address book, if you can. You should have an Outlook Express folder in the Program Files of you H/D. Look in there for the addressbook. It is called WAB (Windows Address book) Copy it to where ever you wish externally.

Also, while you are in the folder, click on the OE icon and see if the application will work from there.

DA, thanks for that, but even in the Program Files folder I get error messages for OE and WAB...even scanned it with Norton, ran Registry Mechanic and any and all other spyware tools I can find.
Think I'll just surrender this battle...

If you should search the web for 'exactly a uninque few words from the error message, maybe you'll get lucky.

Just a quick update to anyone who may (or may not!) be interested in my original problem...

After literally weeks of frustrating searches, futile attempts and dead-ends, I wiped Outlook Express from my computer and downloaded Thunderbird...it's a real gem! I did lose my old address book (but luckily I had a replica within Hotmail), but DID keep all sent/deleted/saved messages...can easily rebuild address book as people email me...messages to my old OE address still arrive at new Thunderbird one, so I'm a very happy chappy!
