vista and windows messenger

when i check my email windows live messenger opens up in the same window as the page i'm looking at.when i close the messenger i close the page i was on before i checked the email.i'm used to win xp where the messenger always opened in it's own window,how can i fix this in vista premium?thanks

If comcast.net mail, I think you can go to the link below for the Outlook Express set up.

Or just open a blank window, or new tab before you check mail.

Vista does have a Microsoft provided firewall, which, I understand works for both inbound and outbound data. So no third party firewall should be required. Just be sure the built-in firewall is activated.
