Does anyone have a coffee pot they actually like?
Comments (25)Since everybody else is weighing in, I'll put in my $0.02. I have a 12 cup version of the Cuisinart 'Brew Central' (see link) that was sold through Starbucks. I like it best of all the recent coffee pots I've had (and I seem to buy one every year or so). I think it meets the requirements listed that started this thread, even though it is a thermal caraffe type pot. It is programmable, and easy to use (didn't need to read the instructions). It seems durable to me, but we've only been using it since Christmas. It is definately more durable than the previous low-end Cuisinart unit I was using. It uses a #4 cone filter, and comes with the gold mesh filter. I also use brown paper filters, for easy clean up. The documentation for this model doesn't say anything about a warming plate, but it does appear to have one, or at least the base gets too hot to touch. Pros: 1. It works great! The pieces fit into place, and the drip mechanism doesn't seem overly complex or failure prone. This is EXTREMELY important to me, as I've had WAY too many coffee makers over the last year that over flow, or mis-flow, or get clogged, or something goes wrong, spilling coffee all over the place. The LAST thing I want in the morning to to clean up the coffee that I only want to be DRINKING!!! 2. The apparent warming plate turns off right away, and the thermal caraffe keeps the coffee fairly hot for quite a while, without 'Cooking' the already brewed coffee over time. 3. It's a great size, that fits under our cabinets with plenty of clearance. Cons: a. It doesn't have an externally visible level or gauge telling you how much water to add. You have to look down in the tank at a little 'stair-step' thingie to see how much water you've added. When I'm blurry-eyed in the morning, this is one thing I don't want to have to focus on. b. There is no overflow prevention system, and the tank can hold more water than the caraffe. It is completely possible to put too much water in the tank, which will then attempt to flow into the caraffe, and overflow on the counter. To prevent this from happening, I keep a pitcher of water with the exact correct water level marked on it. This also helps address Con #a. c. I wish the coffee was a bit hotter, and that the caraffe kept the coffee hotter longer. If I'm in the mood, I'll pre-warm the caraffe with hot tap water before brewing. The water I use is room-temperature, so that helps. We had an 8 Cup Thermal caraffe pot that kept the coffee HOT for like 6-8 hours. This one will keep it hot enough for about two hours, but after that it's not hot enough for me. I grind up coffee a couple of times each week for the next few days, and I fill the filter cone up to almost the TOP. I love rich, strong coffee! I use Reverse-Osmosis filtered water, and locally roasted beans from my favorite coffee establishment, and I'm happy with the coffee that is produced. We'll see if I'm still happy toward the end of the year, or if I will feel compelled to buy yet another coffee pot or not. :-) Here is a link that might be useful: Cuisinart Brew Central...See MoreDoes anyone have 'The Galley Sink'? How do you like it?
Comments (178)I have two Galley sinks and I am so diapointed with them. I would love to remove them, but I cannot without destroying my counters because of the way these sinks mount, which is different from most kitchen sinks. Just be aware, that when you purchas a Galley sink, it is permanent unless you want to redo your counters too. What I don't like about them is how messy they look. I have a busy household, so lots of dishes and every time the water is turned on, it spots the sink unless I hand dry it. This is impracticle for a busy home. Food sticks to the sides of the sink easily and the corners are very hard to clean. Also, the ledge where the boards rest, gets wet because of dish washing so the caulking breaks down easily and there is a moldy rim around the edge of the sink becuase of this design. (I had the caulking fixed within a year, but it happens in a matter of weeks) . I contacted the company and they sent me a product to clean it, but the product was like other products I can buy and the problem is the design and the materials. The company also comes acorss as uncaring and poorly skilled when dealing with customer disapointments. I had a stainless steel sink before and never experienced it looking like this, I actually liked that sink. Also, their bamboo boards broke down very easily. I had new boards made out of walnut and my new boards have lasted two years getting wet daily, with no extra drying from me and they look great. I think Galley sinks wants to be this fancy company but it's just cheap materials, cheap product, cheap customer service. Again, I wish I could remove them, but I cannot without destroying my counters and my counters are so expenisve that I am stuck with these horrible sinks. Good luck with your house remodel!...See Moreangled corner cabinets 24inches
Comments (1)Missyann, Is this what you mean? This is the kitchen in my last house. I absolutely loved both corner cabinets. The one near the tv was my prep area and I felt there was lots more counter workspace than a right-angle corner would give. The other corner held a 3-bin recycling center. I'll have just one corner in my new kitchen, but chose to have the same angle setup as by the tv. (While you're looking, say hi to grandson Cody!!) Comments (46)Yes, bookshelves with small throw pillows. I used to have a 'corner' where I kept toys and books, when we had more little kids visiting. Since the boys are older....what about your coffee bar? Too far from the kitchen? Where is your play area? Do you have a family room/play room downstairs? Do the boys spend most of their time in the living room? Do you think that will change as they get older? The reason I ask is that it's probably very nice to have the kitchen overlooking the living area....for now. But as they get older (and have all their friends over) if you don't have a downstairs space, maybe think about French doors between living room and kitchen. Something to block the noise, but still see what's happening. Just an idea :)...See Moredivine_serenity_gw
