In xp it's under 'add/remove windows components' on the 'add/remove' screen in the control panel.

This has Vista. Can't find it listed anywhere. I'll just have to accept IE7. I've got worse problems trying to figure this new thing out. Thanks again, though. Debbie.

I found a great site that shows you how to configure Vista to fit your own personality. What is it about IE7 that you dislike? I disabled tab browsing because I don't care for it. I think Vista comes with IE7 standard.

From what I've heard, download/install IE8. It will then give you the option to use IE6 or IE8.

IE8 is still in the Beta or testing stage. Not a good idea to download and install Beta programs unless you dont mind the possibility of messing up your computer and are happy doing formats and re-installs. Not for novices

IE 8 is still in beta I would not try that unless you want to accept a beta program and the issues that go with it. I am not sure you would even have IE6 option from that.

if you google "make vista look like xp" you can find a lot of tips and tricks and fixes to get Vista more like xp and you can turn off a ton of stuff that comes on in vista that you do not need that use a lot of resources.

In my last issue of PC World magazine in fact there was an article with a list of things to turn off in vista.

I would go google for IE7 Pro add on it does a lot of good stuff to IE 7 it may be at www.IE7pro.com
You should be able to right click up at the top of your IE7 in the gray area and click "Classic menu" you can also add or remove commands there.

Thanks everyone. I guess I am just over whelmed with all this. I just got to feel like I could actually know what to do (most of the time) with my desktop & then I went & got this thing. For starters, I can't manage to find how to send mail on this IE7 screen. Don't know if it is the screen size (15.4) or IE7 or if I am just missing it. Between configuring the laptop, getting rid of all Dells extra tag ons, etc. I am losing it.

Also, I have a webcam camera so I can talk with my grandchildren but after 12 hours of trying can't find anything to make it work. Googled & now I think that I have to download a separate program. Is that true & is there a safe one. Free if possible. Thanks so much - again. Debbie.

Check your user manual, it will step you thru the camera operation and other things

Been there - done that. One page with nothing on connecting to another computer. The help button on the web camera section seemed to imply that I needed another program. I'll have to go there again more calmly tomorrow. Dell's owners manuals are the only manuals worse than Toyotas. Both are great machines but manuals are practical useless. Thanks, though. What is the make and model of your web cam? You should need no additional software for it, it should have came with a disk with the drivers on it for the web cam, did it?

It came in the xps m1530. There is a CD that says webcam manager - already installed. I have windows messenger but I turned it off in the start menu cause I thought it had to do with chat sites. did you check in the recycle bin to see if it might still be in there?

It's gone thanks to c cleaner but it is ok because this is a temporary laptop. A new one is arriving next week cause this one came in damaged. And I am not touching a thing on that one. I may just look at it forever. Thanks evryone, Debbie. PS. That link above lets you download it, though.
