Recently I saw directions where you can hit a key or keys on your key board to return to the top of a page instead of having to scroll back...I dont know where I saw it.Can someone tell me which key to do that??

That would be the "Home" and "End" keys.

also usually page up and page down too, plus you can of course use the up and down arrows to move up and down instead of using the mouse.

trivial question #38, FF and the scroll wheel to change text size

Albert I have the Logitech MX1000 and simply rolling the wheel moves the window up or down. If I press down first then roll the wheel it does change the font size. I should change that because before I had it set so that when I pressed the wheel I could then move the mouse down slightly, release it and the page would continue to scroll. Setting at the speed of reading avoided constantly moving the page with the mouse.

Are you using the touchpad on the laptop or a separate mouse? There's something about scrolling on HP laptops that can be tricky. If you're using the touchpad, there should be a line on the right side that you slide your finger down. This may vary in different models, so if you told us your HP model, it would be helpful perhaps.

cboy, Thank you for your response. :) Even when I change the scroll to 1,3,5,screen, etc it still doesn't scroll smoothly in ratio to how much I'm moving the wheel. It "jumps" ahead no matter how many lines I set it for and I have to scroll up and down to get back to the place on the page I want to read. I hope this makes sense. Thank you for your help.

make sure your touch pad button is on ,,,just above the touchpad and run your finger downthe right side of the pad. You should see a round target on your screen indicating that your are scrolling. Not sure if this is what you are asking about.

If you have a mouse with a clickable wheel you might be able to use that to go up or down a page. You can try by opening a page, press your mouse wheel down and a 2 headed arrow should appear. (Mine gives an audible click when I do this) Now you control the up or down scroll by moving the mouse up or down. Using this method you can set your screen to scroll up at the speed you read so you are able to sit back and just read. The more you move the mouse up or down the faster it scrolls. To stop scrolling click the left mouse button.
