Lionessrose, thanks so much for introducing me to the scented geraniums! I am so thrilled! I never knew I could get scented geraniums! the flowers are very pretty/delicate. I did followup research on what you wrote and am one happy camper/planter...And yes, I'll have to add thyme to my listing besides Kristen_flower's nepeta/your Walker's Low... Maybe I can put Karl's bee balm nearer the trees... That way they don't get compete with the roses and the shade trees will keep them from being too prolific...Had most reviews say it was semi-invasive as he had described... The other option is to get a dwarf bee balm, which is less invasive... Zalac, I hope I can really convince/beg you!!!!! not to use grub killer... It is bad, bad, bad news! You may have lots of birds, but I am concerned about the long term effects... How long have you lived at your place and how long have you used that grub killer... When I first moved to my new home, the lawn care people used grub killer against my express orders... I waited for 2 days of heavy rain... Well, after the rains, the following day I played just 5 minutes of frisbee with my Border Collie in the backyard... It made her sick with diarrhea and runny, mushy stools for an entire month! I was soooo mad! And note I did find 2 dead birds in my lawn as well that terrible year. What people don't realize is the accumulative effect that these poisons have... That's why many dogs die of cancer at a very early age...Poisons from grasses... they lick/clean their paws, pick up the ball/frisbee from the grass, etc. etc. Birds like to eat grubs and insects. Grub killers are used in my neighborhood by almost everyone! and just look at the pathetic varieties of birds that remain...It's just a matter of time before pesticides start taking their toll... And note pesticide companies only test out their products for a year...it takes a few years for cancer and infertility to develop with birds and other living creatures...

There was always a way to rebel when one was at that age. I think though, that it's getting harder when there's so much more "anything goes" these days. It seems every time the rebels go to extremes, the extremes become more mainstream or at least familiar enough to no longer be shocking. Back when I was growing up, a rebel only needed to grow his hair long...the longer, the more rebellious. I recall what a todo was created when the "mop head" Beatles first came on the scene. I mean their hair was actually quite short and they wore suits and ties for goodness sake! I'm not sure what kids will do next to rebel...I mean tats are common, pants can't go any lower...they even make suspenders to keep the pants from falling completely down, skirts and shorts have already been shorter than short, make-up has already gone totally goth with black eyes and lips, hair has already been every color of the rainbow and gelled to the sky, earlobes have been stretched, tongues have been split, genitalia have been pierced and ringed. I honestly don't know what's next. I remember back in the hippy days, my FIL, a prof, who was very matter of fact with his students, would comment on their long hair and baggy bell bottoms and say, "You know, if you want to get attention, you don't have to go through all that effort....you could just walk around with your fly open." (Please don't misinterpret...I'm not suggesting all tats are a statement of rebellion.)

Darn...that took me half a day to figure out...they could make things easier. I have a word processor and you just "insert a record". You can't sort this database...it just sorts ascending or descending....that wouldn't put a 1942 record into the 1942 records. I did it, but I hope I don't have to do it again....you get your cursor in just the right place and right click...."then" and only then do you have to option of adding a row. This took me hours! But...one you get this database done, envelopes and mailing labels are fairly easy to do. I said, "fairly" because nothing comes easy it seems....

I share your frustrations Eld and am glad that you at least spoke up when many wouldn’t. I’m probably the worst to respond to your post because I don’t even care anymore about being diplomatic, I just get in peoples faces. It’s taken me a long time to get to this point but one can only be diplomatic for so long...... We live on a busy road and have several neighbors who allow their dogs to run a muck. Not small dogs either. 3 large labs on one side of us and a boxer and a German Pointer across from us, all beautiful dogs, young, healthy and energenic. We also have a guy who’s moved in down the road who lets his 2 dogs run wild too, as a pack. They have literally charged my husband before and most recently I saw one with a muzzle on. We live on a busy road, I’ve witnessed traffic stop numerous times for the boxer and german pointer as they try to cross. I’ve called their owner many many times and have even leashed their dogs and brought them home to them; often times without so much as a thank you. To say it’s aggrevating is being kind. I’ve witnessed the labs doing their business and digging in other yards and one has barked insistently all day long FOR YEARS while it’s owner sits just inside the door on his fat a$$ watching tv. It really pisses me off. I used to be nice about it but it fell on deaf ears. Now, the words I use to the guy across the street: “Hi J**n, do you still want your dogs? If so, then you need to come get them NOW. If not, I’ll take care of it so they can be homed in a safer environment”. With the labs, when they wander, I’ll yell at them to go home and they do. When the one is barking, I yell out our bedroom window, “Really??? It’s 7am on a Sunday morning, shut your dog up, people are trying to sleep!” It works and obviously, I no longer care if I’m rude. The way I see it is that I spent years training my dog so she won’t run a muck or bother any of our neighbors. That was important to me! She never ever barks unless someone is approaching, she is never leashed and she never leaves the yard unless she’s invited to and to her credit, she is really loved by neighbors who normally don’t even care for dogs. IMO, we as well as their dogs deserve the same kind of care and consideration!
