How to make one paragraph out of several sentences in Word 2003

Sometimes when I copy something off the web instead of it being in one paragraph or more, it is in a series of lines some being short some longer. There is no "wrapping" I guess you call it.

I can fix this problem at work by hitting two buttons but those two buttons don't work at home.

I know there is a way to do this but I've just searched again and don't find the answer.

I just remembered I posted this question a while back. I just searched for it and found it. I tried the suggestions given and I still can't make it work.

I'm going to assume there is no easy way to do this and try to live with it. As I said in my original post in August 2010 I find it amazing that at work it's a simple two key process and here it's complicated and doesn't work for me.

When you copy like that, and it ends up weird like you describe, it means you have unavoidably copied over some formatting/codes. I usually find it simplest to copy it, paste it into Word, and then just move my cursor around to the weird formatting locations and backspace to remove everything between a pair of separated words, and then reinsert a space. It's not too hard unless you have pages of text.

Alternatively, you could try copying it into Notepad first, and then to Word, and see if that fixes the problem. Here is a description of how this works from a Wikipedia article:

"Notepad accepts text from the Windows clipboard. When clipboard data with multiple formats is pasted into Notepad, the program will only accept text in the CF_TEXT format. This is useful for stripping embedded font type and style codes from formatted text, such as when copying text from a web page and pasting into an email message or other WYSIWYG text editor. The formatted text is temporarily pasted into Notepad, and then immediately copied again in stripped format to be pasted into the other program."

You should put the cursor where you want to paste the words but do not paste yet. Leave the cursor there then select the Edit > Paste > Paste Special > Unformatted Text. If you prefer the find and replace method you don't need to use the other but there's no need to do both. Hope this is clear. It's even easier in word 2007. You copy and paste and after you paste a little icon pops up near the pasted text. You click the down arrow on the icon and select 'keep text only, from the drop down menu and that does it. I will post a picture in case the icon shows up in word 2003. In the context menu 'keep source formatting' is selected but you could choose 'paste text only' and that would do what Ginny is trying to do. I copied part of the page I posted a link to above and pasted it in a new word document and here is how it looked when I clicked on the down arrow of the document. That does it in two clicks. There was always a way to rebel when one was at that age. I think though, that it's getting harder when there's so much more "anything goes" these days. It seems every time the rebels go to extremes, the extremes become more mainstream or at least familiar enough to no longer be shocking. Back when I was growing up, a rebel only needed to grow his hair long...the longer, the more rebellious. I recall what a todo was created when the "mop head" Beatles first came on the scene. I mean their hair was actually quite short and they wore suits and ties for goodness sake! I'm not sure what kids will do next to rebel...I mean tats are common, pants can't go any lower...they even make suspenders to keep the pants from falling completely down, skirts and shorts have already been shorter than short, make-up has already gone totally goth with black eyes and lips, hair has already been every color of the rainbow and gelled to the sky, earlobes have been stretched, tongues have been split, genitalia have been pierced and ringed. I honestly don't know what's next. I remember back in the hippy days, my FIL, a prof, who was very matter of fact with his students, would comment on their long hair and baggy bell bottoms and say, "You know, if you want to get attention, you don't have to go through all that effort....you could just walk around with your fly open." (Please don't misinterpret...I'm not suggesting all tats are a statement of rebellion.)

Even our lawyer IS concerned about their death and infirmity contingency. In all his years as an estate and realty lawyer, he said he has NEVER seen that kind of contingency. Especially their infirmity contingency. He wanted it defined. It was defined by their lawyer mostly as a loss of the ability to make a decision. So NO, I am not heartless when I pray for them to live and be healthy up until our closing. I only wish them to last until I sell them my home.... I wish to close without having to worry about putting my home back on the market once again!! I don't think I could bear going back on the market again if anything happened to this sale. These people may be paying cash for the sale of our home, but they only put down 1k as a good faith gesture to purchase. Paying cash for full amount.. with only 1K in cash as a deposit could mean they could walk at any time until closing! They would not be out much if they did so. However, I doubt that they will do that, but you never know. Still I will not really RELAX until we officially close a month from now. Rental agreement is now in place, they didn't budge much on their rental price but we don't want to rock the sale of our house at this point. They only made the offer to buy because they knew we could rent the house back to them. So they will be making a nice profit on us from renting it back to us for 3 months. And we are alright with that... considering we actually were better about giving them a good price for our home.. we didn't dicker as much as we could have. In the meantime, our house inspection turned up with no major problems (which I assumed would happen- but who knows if there is anything lurking beneath the surface) although we are still being tested for radon... which who knows what that will be??? Never had one in all the almost 30 years we have been here. Hopefully, we will pass that. The building inspector will be picking up the containers on Monday at noon and said he will be able to get the results before the time expires for us to go under full contract.

Michael- "Nomenclature" means "the names of the parts"- from Dictionary.com " nomenclature [ noh-muhn-kley-cher, noh-men-kluh-cher, -choor ] SEE SYNONYMS FOR nomenclature ON THESAURUS.COM noun a set or system of names or terms, as those used in a particular science or art, by an individual or community, etc. the names or terms comprising a set or system." So your illustration is showing what you should call all the different parts that could be on a window. It is not instructions for how to construct a window. I note that your illustration does not include screens, so the rain would indeed hit the glass panes and trickle down as the author in the OP describes. Your apology is accepted. Happy Easter.

Click Edit, Paste Special, then select Unformatted Unicode Text.

Word will recognize embedded code and formatting when you copy from a web page. Word click Edit : Paste As and then choose "unformated text". It also useful for stripping out formatting when you're pasting from another document.

I can't wait to try those ideas but off to work now.

Thank you so much for your help with this even though as I mentioned I've already asked for and received ideas a year ago. Hopefully this time something will work as I copy and paste a lot of stuff of the web.
