WANTED: Cookie exchange

Hi all,

I am a little disappointed with the cookie exchange. Here it is Wed the 20th and I've only received two cookie exchanges. Thanks again Debbie and Stacy the cookies are wonderful. What is going on with the rest of the exchanges I understand if I was on Brenda55's list.

Hi Linda! You were on my list and I'm so very sorry to hear you haven't gotten your cookies yet. As I said on another thread, I sent all five of my boxes, including yours, last Wednesday, Priority mail from Chicago downtown. They were all sent together. It looks like everyone else on my list has now received them. I just can't see them taking a week even with the Christmas rush.

I'm hoping there was no mistake with your address, would you pm me with your correct address or I'll send you what I have in my records so we can check that? I the meantime I'll try to find out if I can trace your package.

Linda sorry that you are still waiting. I have another two to come as well. Everyone has sent, except of course Brenda, it must be a mail issue.

Next year we will have to do this earlier in December to avoid the congestion in the postal system.

If you have 10 people then you make 10 dozen cookies.You keep a dozen and take the other 9 to exchange.It's also fun to make an extra dozen for sampling with coffee/tea at the exchange.It all depends on the people exchanging what else you might want to do.I always attach copies of the recipe to my exchange packages.

Alexa, I thought of that but it seems that it may be harder to keep track of the different types of cookies that way...but that's just me...what do you all think? continuing to keep checking back for every post to see if it's a comment or another batch of cookies might get cumbersome for some. But then again, since we already started that way...it's a toss up.

Here's my recipe for the Chocolate Caramel Treasures: Cookie type: formed These are another variation of thumbprint cookie. This recipe came from Gourmet Magazine, December 1999. This makes about 2 dozen cookies. Ingredients For the cookies: 1 stick unsalted butter, softened 2/3 cup sugar 1 egg yolk 1 teas vanilla 1 cup flour 2 tbsp whole milk 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Â¼ teas salt 1 egg white, lightly beaten Â½ cup chopped hazelnuts For the filling: 10 (1 x Â½ inch)plain caramels 2 tbsp heavy cream For the drizzle: 3 oz semisweet chocolate, finely chopped Directions For the cookies: Beat together butter, yolk, milk, sugar, and vanilla until well blended. Sift in flour, cocoa, and salt and mix until mixture forms a dough. Chill, wrapped in plastic wrap, until firm, at least 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll tablespoons of dough into balls, then coat with egg white, and roll in nuts. Place balls 1 Â½ inches apart on a greased baking sheets. Press your thumb into center of the balls to flatten, leaving a depression. Bake until puffed slightly but centers are still soft, 10-12 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately press centers of cookies again with a spoon. Let cool. Make the filling while cookies are cooling. Heat caramels and cream in a small sauce pan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted and mixture is smooth. Spoon into centers of cookies and cool completely. Make chocolate drizzle one hour before serving. Melt chocolate in a double boiler or a metal bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water, stirring until smooth. Cool to warm and pour into a heavy-duty sealable plastic bag. Seal bag and snip 1 corner to form a small hole. Drizzle chocolate over cookies and let stand until set, about 30 minutes. Thanks very much for your help everyone! I checked out the dessert exchange thread and also Robin's cookie exchange. A bunch of good ideas, now I just have to choose which recipe to make and how many rules I want to impose. Eileen, I found your Polish Tea Cookies, and they sound wonderful! You weren't on my list. I am still waiting for one package and I see that there is still someone waiting on one of mine. I am starting to get a little nervous that they wont receive my package on time! I understand how busy the post office is at this time of year. I just hate to disappoint someone. What can you do?! Tis the season to be jolly! lol

I'm so sorry it has taken so long for the cookies to get to you - it seems I had transposed a digit in your zip code. Unfortunately, I was having computer problems when I was sending the lists out and was unable to "cut & paste" so I was re-typing everyone address. Just ask Annie about address mess-ups - I can't even blame her incorrect address on a number switching error! LOL!

I am just a bit dyslexic when it comes to numbers, so even with my checking and double checking, it got by me. Many apologies for the mistake!

Needless to say - I have everyones CORRECT address stored now, and without any further tech problems and an earlier mail date - it should be much smoother next year!

Again - my apologies for the delay ~

Just a note the rest of the cookies came today. Some how the zip code was wrong (89521 is the correct one)
Thanks again to all of you we will be using them on Christmas Eve at our family dinner.

No harm done for the mix up. I diffently want to do this again next year but we should start earlier.
