ORB door hardware and chrome bathroom faucets?

I know I want ORB hardware on all the doors throughout the house because I think it warms up all the white trim. I don't care if it's a trend or not, it's what I've always liked best. But, I prefer chrome faucets in the bathrooms (except maybe the powder room). Will it look ok to mix? I have always mixed my finishes and know I prefer it over everything matching but I am starting to get a big case of self doubt. Ugh.

ugh.. I hear you, but rest assured.. after months of research, it is perfectly fine to use what your thinking! I have an old house we are restoring, and the hinges are very bark aged brass, and I'm going with chrome - it's classic and goes with everything!

We have ORB handles, brass hinges (unintentional) and nickel faucets and light fixtures. It will look fine.

We did that too - all our knobs and door handles are ORB as well as light fixtures. The appliances are white and sink is SS. Our faucet is Chrome/Ikea. Initially the faucet was only supposed to be temporary until I found something better/pull out, but it's grown on me and I'm not used to having a pull out and for $200 more, I just don't care anymore so it stays. I considered switching it this week to use the kitchen faucet for the new laundry tub.

I went with the chrome on my Kohler faucet partly because I didn't like the Brazen Bronze color that Kohler does for the vinnata faucet. It's not really an ORB finish and I wasn't positive I would like it in my red kitchen. The upcharge for the color was about $200 and my family was still placing smelling salts under my nose just to cover the $300 chrome faucet price. I decided that I would rather have $200 worth of new dishes and table linens for the dining room. Chrome faucets are long-lasting and easy clean too. Anyway, I indulged my longing for ORB with my cabinet pulls. And here is a shot of other side of kitchen, with my bank of cabinets. Yes, you should mix metals, but I would do more of a contrast than chrome to brushed nickel. If you're doing chrome for your faucets and shower fixtures, then pick something more interesting for the other hardware like oil rubbed bronze or gold. If you pick things too close together sometimes it looks like you were trying to match and just slightly missed. Make sure the difference in metals shows that it was intentional.

Ours too, seems pre-hung doors mostly come with satin nickel hinges. But I don't care, I love matte black handles. We are going to either replace the hinges with black (cheap on amazon, we've done it before) or spray them black eventually. It'll be on the 75-page list of things to do once we move in haha.

I think that is the best combo personally. Then your light fixtures can be chrome vanity and ORB overheads. Chrome overheads often look cheap.

I'm so glad I opened this thread. That is exactly what I'm planning. I like the sparkle of chrome near the sink and mirror. Plus it cleans up easily. However, I've had my heart set on ORB door hardware, ever since I saw those Emtek egg shaped glass knobs with ORB rosette. david c -- I hadn't thought about the overhead fixtures looking cheap in chrome. Now that you mention it, I think I agree.

Thanks for the reassurance! And I agree, I'm not a fan of chrome overhead fixtures.

Most competent lighting designers would not go for overhead lighting at the vanity at all due to the cast shadows. Do two sconces to either side of the mirror at eye level for the best lighting.

Agree with everyone about mixing hardware. Ive even had good success with ORB lighting and chrome fixtures but much prefer brushed nickel.

We just finished our home and we have ORB doorknobs and chrome lights and fixtures in our master bath. It look gorgeous and no problem with mixing.

We are doing ORB doorknobs and ORB light fixtures with chrome faucets. I think it's perfectly fine to mix finishes. I asked a similar question, here is a link to my GW thread. Best Wishes!
