McAfee uninstall problem

When I purchased my new notebook it came preloaded with McAfee for 90 days. My days expired and I thought I uninstalled McAfee with windows uninstall and with McAfee patch MCPR2. I thought it was gone but when I go into my security center (control panel) it shows two or more firewalls running at the same time: "Windows Firewall & McAfee Personal firewall". Also, McAfee virus scan is scanning and running.

I've tried right clicking on the patch also to run as admin. but it's still there. It is no where on my computer. I am running Vista. It uninstalled on my other computer with no problem so I really can't figure this one out. I tried calling but they wanted to charge me to talk to a tech.

Any help would be so much appreciated. I've spent the last 5 days trying to figure this one out.

I dunno, I'd try this again and follow it to the letter.

Using McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool:
- Double click the MCPR.exe
- A Command Line window will be displayed, and then close automatically.
- Wait for a second Command Line window to be displayed. Note: Do not double-click MCPR.exe again, you may have to wait up to 1 minute for the next window to appear.
- After the second window appears, the program will begin the cleanup.
- Observe the installation, which could take several minutes. The following message will be displayed in the Command Line window: The machine must reboot to complete the un-installation. Reboot now? [y.n]
- Press Y on the keyboard.
- Wait for the computer to restart.
- All McAfee products are now removed from your computer.

Thanks Randy but this didn't work either. Still there. I will keep searching.

Why would you want to take the risk of uninstalling your Antivirus or Firewall software (I'm assuming this is what you mean when you write "McAfees") so you can get to a game site? With no protection, your computer will be compromised within a day. Usually there's a way with most protective software to enter a site as a safe site so it doesn't prevent access. You can go online with McAfee and have a free, realtime chat session with a technician. Try that first before you start disabling your computer. One other thought. Have you tried to access this site from another computer to confirm that it is still an active site?

Avast is a very good Anti virus program but nothing more. I use it on one confuser. For spy wares you should consider AdAware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Spywareblaster. These are not the only ones there are others as good but these three generally get all the good comments and are recommended often even on this site. Personally I run all 3 on all 3 of my machines. I look for updates once a week generally unless I see an update notice posted on another site I belong to. If I have been sensibly surfing then I will run them every 6 to 8 weeks. If I have wandered into doubtful sites (looking for free clipart, fonts or other freebies) then I will run them that night to rid myself of the phone home spies that will have inevitably appeared on my computer.

Albert, thanks. I will pass this along to her. I know if it were my computer, that's exactly what I would do, and I'll take a copy of this to her and see if I can convince her to do the same. She doesn't go online every day, so keeping several different programs updated is a problem for her; I realize that's why she purchased a protection suite. Of course, Avast does update itself, but she would have to maually update some of the other anti-malware programs. Wish me luck!

Yeah, definitely looks to originate from "within" the browser. I can't tell if it's just an ad or a "push notification" though. Out of curiosity, I booted Windows to see what a Window's notification looked like. To me, it looks different but maybe I'm wrong. To me, that looks like it's coming up out of the lower right corner of the task bar and is partially covering the browser window, even the right scrollbar. I'm not a Chrome user but it seems you can turn off push notifications:That came from https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3220216 I've had Firefox ask me if it was okay for a site to send me notifications, but I've always just said no, it's not okay. Maybe I should take time to look for a way to just say no... never. :)

You might try reinstalling it from your computer cd's.
Then boot up in safe mode to uninstall.

If you want - AOL offers free version of the McAfee firewall/virus program. You'll need an AOL email address and Screen Name , which they have free online email which will allow you the download.
