I am having an issue on my laptop, Dell Inspirion E1505, windows XP. I was on the computer and the battery was low and turned off. I plugged in the power cord and a blue screen came up with white writing with a message "Unmountable Boot Volume". On the bottom it says STOP: 0X000000ED.

This is the 1st time I am on this forum, please help me.

This will work if you have the XP installation disk, not the recovery CD but a full blown copy of XP

I put the disk in and it still comes up with the unmountable _boot_volume message.

Right bookmarks are with the browser so you need to know the browser and preferably the version number. Like Firefox or I E, or Chrome. I use Xmarks that way no matter what browser or device or OS I have my bookmarks easily accessible. It is free and I love it.

One of my many questions would be how do I upload my music CD to my computer using Nero 11 software? I thought I would burn a copy of one of my favorite CDS I created some years back. I can't even figure this out. I have made and burned a lot of CDs. Another of my many questions would be how do I get my favorite fonts that I have paid for or gotten free over the years installed. None of my favorite non Windows fonts installed on this new computer. I have searched and followed many instructions. Including finding where to drag and drop them. The computer says they are installed when I try to drop and drag them to the font list. They do not come up in my font list. Is there a place to go to for help?

Try olychick's suggestion, part of which describe better than I can what I do. What I said wasn't exactly what I do, but what I do is more complicated and perhaps not suitable for all to follow. In case you're stuck, here's enough to try if you want: When a PC seems stuck, I reboot it the "not recommended way" - I hold down the on/off switch for 10-15 seconds until it shuts off. Then restart it. While it's restarting, I hold down or press fast and repeatedly the F8 key. That should get you into starting choices in BIOS. Choose Safe Mode with networking. The PC should boot up. Then go to Control Panel, find the Windows Update choice (I forget what the words are in the menu tree) and tell the PC to update Windows. Or, a better choice if System Restore is enabled, trigger System Restore (NOT RECOVERY !) . Choose a date several weeks back. It will role Windows back before the failed update. Then after that concludes (can take 10-30 minutes, depending), you can trigger a Windows update the normal way or wait until it does it on its own. Keep the PC on for a few days to give it a chance to get back to normal. Good luck.

Try to enter the Bios and change the Boot order, the machine sounds like it is booting from the "c' Drive still, and it needs to boot from the "cd rom" drive.

Restart the computer I think you hit f2 to enter set up, that's the bios - in there is where you change the boot order,
make changes safe changes an exit, that is if you can get that far.

Boot from "cdrom" first.

It is not working. I tried it with the CD Rom in the computer before I started it and without

Can you enter the BIOS (setup) Take the xp cd out and follow these instructions:

1. Restart your computer.
2. At the first text on the screen or when the DellÂ logo appears, press F2 every three seconds until the message Entering Setup appears.

It's possible you may not be able to enter the bios with the error you have

Note:

Some older Dell computers use an alternate key sequence instead of F2 to enter system setup. These alternate key sequences include:

Ctrl and the Alt and the Enter keys
* Delete key
* Fn and the F1 key (laptop computers only)
* Fn and the Esc key (laptop computers only)

You may consider taking it in for repair, this is not a simple problem.

If you can set your bios to the selection to boot from the cd rom as zep has suggested then you can also use a linux live cd to access your windows section of your pc and at the very least retrieve your data so as not to lose it if you have to do a reformat and reinstall.

Have you gone into the bios and made sure it is set to the correct boot order of cd rom first?

Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer
Geek to Live: Rescue files with a boot CD
that link provides directions and a picture of setting the bios boot sequence.

It may be possible to repair the file also using the linux live cd but I am not one to tell you how to do that.

In case you want to try using a linux live cd and don't have another pc to burn an iso cd, most book stores carry linux magazines and they all have free linux live cd's in them many with Ubuntu.

You can try going to the Microsoft forum area at BBR and asking there too.
