Miele Perfect Clean Interior
Comments (5)I have Masterchef Perfect Clean/ 30" self cleaning double ovens . (Loving them) My Miele repairman told me only to use self-cleaning cycle for absolute emergencies. He said I'm better off using Easy Off. The reasoning for this advice is that he said it is not only hard on the interior to take it to such high temps, but also hard on the Motherboard/ electronic components. Over time using self cleaning can cause the enamel to get hairline cracks. Had I known, I would not have gotten self cleaning because now I won't be using it. I've used it once in one year, before his warning. I do like the Perfect Clean but I don't always wipe it out like Trailrunner does. I heat the oven up to about 200 and then wipe it out on occasion. I'll take the heated racks out (with potholders) and scrub them with fine steel wool. Sometimes I'll have to repeat the process twice if they are very dirty, but compared to my old ovens, cleaning is a breeze. We use the top oven a lot and I don't maintain it as well as trailrunner. The oven is usually still too hot to mess with before I retire! With the door, after heating (the key to easy cleaning) I put a little oil on it and use a razor blade on the baked on specks, followed by mildly soapy damp rag and dry with a clean terry. Works great without scraping the glass. I have done this many times and see no scraping and do not believe it has affected the Perfect Clean surface, as the spots still come off pretty easily. I know that's probably a no-no, but I don't want to put oven cleaner on it. The spots come off with ease with a sharp razor blade and the oil protects from any scrapes. As far as some baked on spots in the interior,...well to me that's just part of the "character" of using the oven a lot. If it's not going to burn, and doesn't bother the performance of the oven, I don't care! I never open the doors to cool- and ALWAYs use water in the tray when using rotisserie....See MoreHow to clean a Miele speed oven
Comments (18)I have inherited a miele speedoven with the perfect clean finish. however, the previous owner of the home did not clean it for the 5 years he lived there with his 2 adult sons. it had probably 1/4" of build up on the top, and close to the same on the sides and back. I have been able to get a lot of the build up of grease and food splatters off. The top still looks pretty bad and some of the vent holes are still blocked. Here is how I was able to partially rescue it: steam 50/50 vinegar and water for 7-10 min, leave the door closed for a few more minutes and it helps loosen the build up. Then I used Easy off no fume self clean spray for and hour, wiped clean, wiped with a damp cloth, dried with another cloth. Sometimes used my plastic craft scrapping tool wrapped in damp paper towel to remove/ score the buildup. I had to repeat this process for 4 days about 2-3 times at a time. i have a miele service call in to see if they can disassemble so i can clean further, or replace the stubborn panels. any other suggestions?...See MoreSelf cleaning oven method super rusted my CI dutch oven!
Comments (17)Well, taking a second look, even though there was mucho rust after using the self-clean oven approach, I saw a lot of gray underneath - a good sign. So, after watching a few You-tubes on the subject - I rinsed out the pot with hot water - thoroughly dried with cloth and over gas burner, put on American Idol, and tackled it with absorbent cloths, oil, shortening and salt. I just kept cleaning and cleaning - never got it quite all off, but finally applied the recommended grapeseed oil and let it preheat in a 400 degree oven. Got engrossed in Idol - so it probably stayed in the oven for an hour. Happily, the grapeseed oil sealed it up quite solidly - and the cloth wiped over it comes out perfectly clean! The pan bottom almost matches the lid again (which had not been affected). I will do another couple of cycles of oiling and preheating. (Will post my phone photos if and when I can find the proper cable to upload.) Thanks to each of you for the input....See MoreCleaning a Self-Cleaning oven safely?
Comments (15)I too have a self-cleaning oven feature that I've never used (on this current oven, that is), because I've got a parrot andf they really can be killed by things that don't affect other pets (like non-stick cookware coatings) - there's a very good reason canaries were used as mine safety checks prior to environmental samplers, birds are highly susceptible to gases that mammals don't detect. What I do is a hot soapy water dampened towel to soak off baked on gunk and then a green scrubby, or the Method bathroom scrub (well rinsed off before cooking in the oven again.) That said, I think the cat would be okay - I never had a problem using self-cleaning before getting the parrot, and I've always had cats and dogs. My 20 year old siamese has been through several oven cleaning cycles in her life, and she always just vacated the room until the smell dispersed....See Morerococogurl
