Windows Keeps Shutting Down

I installed a new monitor for my laptop--both HP. Since the installation of the monitor, Windows shuts down. White print on a blue screen. I then restart the computer. I do not know much about computers. I brought the monitor home, looked at the pictures which were the directions and lo and behold it worked. Computer is six months old. Any suggestions? Thank you.

That white print on the blue screen is the vital clue to what is causing this. Can you give us those details?

Here is most of it:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the firswt time, restart your computer. It this message appears again follow these steps. Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If new Installation, ask your hardwre or software mft for any Windows updates.
If problems continue, disable or remove any new installation...

I may be wrong but isn't a priming pot (sometimes called a leaf trap) recommended for an external pump that is above water level? I have a Sequel pump (Sequence) and for above ground installations they say you must have a priming pot so that the pump doesn't run dry. I have one on my pump even though it's in a pump house below water level--got it for the extra measure of preventing stuff going through the pump like baby fishes, algae clumps etc. and I am very glad I have it. My check valve is on the output side of the pump because I have a gravity fed system. I also did use a swimming pool pump for a short while last year--real energy hogs! The priming pot and pump were all one unit.

How much RAM (memory) do you have? Click Start/Control Panel/System and check at the bottom of the small window if you do not know. Are you on dial up or high speed internet? When you say you open more windows, is this tabs or more instances of IE7? Tabbed browsing is a new feature of IE7 that allows more screens within the single instance of IE7 Are you deliberately running other programs in the background like cancer research or other distributed computing programs? You might try checking you are up to date with Norton then running the full suite of scans to be sure you have no unneeded company using your computer without your knowledge.

No, that pretty much tells us it's most likely a hardware problem and with Laptops I have to guess that it could still be heat related. There are little vents on the side of the laptop that can become clogged and cause over heating. Those can be cleaned out usually using a can of compressed air purchased from wallmart or something it's worth a try. The other common problem with Laptops is the AC Adapter connection, those connections can become very problematic and cause the symptoms you describe, I usually advise users to take the battery out and run the machine on just the adapter and see if that produces any results and vice a versa. Next time it shuts down wiggle the AC Adapter a bit and see what the results are there. HP Laptops do have a slight history of shut down issues too. I would also if nothing seems to work take it in for repair..

Look at the flames and pilot burner flame carefully. Do those flames tend to lift off the burner, change color and perhaps turn a dark blue, then become thready and then disappear? If so, your fireplace is starved for combustion air and the flames are being snuffed out. That could be a plugged vent pipe, inadequate combustion air supply, a vent pipe that has a gap or separation in it, a gasket around the glass that has detriorated or other such problem.

Lets see if we can see what's causing the blue screen

Download WhoCrashed from the link below
This program checks for any drivers which may have been causing your computer to crash....

Click on the file you just downloaded and run it.

1 Put a tick in Accept, then click on Next.
2 Put a tick in the Don't create a start menu folder then click Next.
3 Put a tick in Create a Desktop Icon. Then click on Install and make sure there is a tick in Launch Whocrashed before clicking Finish.
4 Click Analyze

It will want to download the Debugger and install it Say Yes

WhoCrashed will create report but you have to scroll down to see it.
Copy and paste it into your next reply.

The following is taken from here. Try that and see what happens.

When this Stop error message occurs, first try to resolve the issue by using the Windows Error Reporting tool that is automatically displayed when any error occurs. The Reporting tool sends an error report to Microsoft, and reports a fix or a workaround back to you immediately. If no fix or workaround is available, or if the fix or workaround reported by the tool does not resolve the error, then follow the methods in the "Advanced Troubleshooting" section.

Also download Blue screen view too

When blue screen happen, it will create a mini dump file which contains information about the crash and this information could be very useful to analyze what is wrong that caused the blue screen. Now with BlueScreenView, it allows you to view the mini dump file information easier and faster, besides ability to highlight suspected drivers that caused the crash as well.

Thank you, People! I called a friend who read this thread. He tried some tried some things and it's all fixed now. He ran some scans and did some extra things for the computer. I appreciate the help.
