Viewing videos...problem with hesitations

Why is it when I view a video on a email, Facebook or on YouTube..it stops every now and then...like it hesitates and then it starts again then hesitates...it is so annoying? Why is that? It does this on all my computers. I have two desktops (XP home ed) and one laptop (Vista home ed)...

How fast is your Internet connection? When you watch a video, what is actually happening is that the video file is being streamed (downloaded) to your computer. If you don't have a fast connection and/or if the video is higher quality (meaning a larger file size) then the file can't be downloaded fast enough. When it pauses, it is "buffering", which means that the rest of the video file is still donwnloading and that's why you can't watch it...it isn't there yet. There are two solutions: 1) get a faster Internet connection, or 2) hit the pause button at the beginning of the video and leave it paused for a minute or two so that more of the video file is downloaded and you can then watch it without it hesitating. When you pause most videos, you can see the progress of the download as a shaded bar that crawls across the bottom of the video window. You don't have to wait until the whole bar is shaded (meaning it's 100% downloaded): you just have to wait long enough so that the progress of the download stays ahead of the progression of the video.

Does that make sense to you? The next time you want to watch a video, look closely at the bottom of the video window and you should see what I mean.

Kudzu9...excellent information -- yes, I understand completely. Thank you so much. I have cable hookup so I do have fast Internet connections. Your #2 should solve the problem. I love this forum because of people like you --- always there when we need you. I truly appreciate it.

Lav Lass, you always reach for the stars and dream of projects like me! mostly I dream. Sometimes they come true. Currently I have in my mind to build a pavilion down in the orchard, a simple wooden platform and using four old porch columns I've saved over the years. It's so frustrating because it seems so simple to build yet I'm hesitant to try. Now give me stone, that's no problem. But a tape measure and drill? forget it. Yes frog I still have the teapot, and the tea cup is fully formed now and looking pretty good. I trimmed my boxwood hedges four times this season - normally only do that twice. I don't know if it was all the good rain we had in the Spring or what but they grew as fast as I snipped. The stone bench is still there in what I'm calling the "little walled garden" now instead of "the sunken garden", since I have another older small sunken garden. Speaking of strong backs. I need to unload two bags of mulch from the trunk of my car that have been in there for a week. So hot and humid here I don't care to do anything.

Since the drivers are up to date and the card and pc are new .. I don't believe that it's the card. I have run computers that ran totally with the 'onboard' graphics chip and if you weren't into extreme gaming .. the display was fine! Any card is MUCH more preferable than the onboard and even though the card you have is low end .. the display Should look much better than you describe. Disconnect the cable from "both ends" of your pc and monitor. Carefully check the 'pins' on each connector. Once you have made sure that the pins are all there and solid .. (not bent or loose) .. try this: You should have a port connection for the 'onboard' graphics? Connect the cable back up to your monitor and then connect the other end of the cable to your 'onboard' graphics port and see if you get better results. If you get a better display, we can go from there. BTW: MAKE SURE that you do ALL of the above "With The PC Powered OFF"!

I would also be interested in the number of viewers-- purely out of curiosity and as a measure of what is important and of interest to others. I post often but in spurts.. there are some days I dont visit GW at all and some when I am more in the mood to read than participate (I *always* have an opinion-- but I don't always want to put in effort to share it. Iowa, no need to be timid. As I said, I always have an opinion but I don't have any special skills to make me worthy of posting on a topic. I'll jump in and talk on a wide range of topics with only my experience, opinions and aspirations. Sure, there are some tangles at times.. and I could see that they might be intimidating.. but they are usually short-lived and focused on a specific topic. Just like in our "real lives" (though I consider this forum an extension of my real circle of friends), sometimes the people around us have bad days. People like to tell scary stories about how much Canadians hate our medical system but we are in fact very proud of it. It is just a weird tactic to tell horror stories about the Canadian healthcare system because it is very easy to verify that the vast majority of Canadians want nothing to do with American-style healthcare – – except rich Canadians who fly in for healthcare on demand much like Americans fly to Mexico for IVF and plastic surgery. Yes, you are our Mexico of healthcare. So I repeat, the vast vast majority of Canadians do not want to go to US style system at all. One thing we need to point out about wait times which is the traditional conservative bugbear about Canadian style system is that the wait times are for things that will not kill you and that is part of gatekeeping to keep healthcare costs down. For example we have long ortho wait times, way too long actually for things like knee replacements. yet when my 92yo grandmother fell and broke her hip, she had a new hip within hours. I always just hit the pause till it is about halfway downloaded, sometimes it has to do with the video quality too of course.
