However since that one is a link to gOS which I happen to have on my pc and I was a global moderator on the gOS forum I have to say it is NOT the best distro and I personally do not recommend it, but there are some other great distros that do run on thumb drive, Puppy linux is great so is damn small linux. The gOS developers just can not decide what they want to do and have left many new users in the lurch.

but it is truly awesome to be able to have an entire OS on a thumb drive!Just carry your whole desktop, browser, OS with you where ever you go.

it is really worth it zep. Do you have linux at all on your pcs? I really am loving it and rarely use my windows boxes anymore. I really recommend Mepis for a really easy to use distro. Most say Ubuntu or Kubuntu and they are good distros I prefer Kubuntu since I like KDE but of all I have tried I go back to Mepis, there is a brand new version in the works right now, it should be out with in a few months. there is a lite version of Mepis called AntiX not sure if it fits on a thumb drive or not.

Oh I bet you need to go add a subscription hang on this is the one you need to add,

Mostly I use vista, but I have on another box a dual boot xp home & Ubuntu7.1, I can not boot into ubuntu anymore not sure what occured it starts to load I get the screen but it stops at---- Running local boot scripts (/etc/rc./local) and never loads someone told me windows may have corrupted it so it may need to be reinstalled

Yes sounds like you need to wipe out your ubuntu and re install it.

If anyone ever finds a linux distro that will support the AT&T 875U card out of the box please let post it here somewhere. That is the only reason I can't use linux.

I would seriously grab a copy of Mepis and try it because it has a built in assistant and everyone usually manages to get Mepis to work with their cards. burn the iso live cd and stick it in and see if it runs live and finds the card.

If Baldy shows up here he would probably know.

I have tried every linux distro I know but none will work out of the box. I keep up with the latest releases including Mepis but so far no luck. I was running Xandros 4.1 until I switched over to the 3G card. I figure it is just a matter of time before one of them will actually recognize my card. Thanks anyway.

Try Vector Linux it seems to work fine and also try the Beta 5 of Mepis that is also be used by a couple of folks. There is always a way to make any card work with any system if you spend just a little time with your best friend Google. The nicest thing about Linux is there is always a distro that will work with even the most troublesome hardware.

Yes there is a tool that will do it for you in Mepis and it is really simple to do and really handy to have on a keyring. I have used it to tweak rogue windoze computers and to check e-mail when a windoze computer is the only thing that is out there to use.
