New Refrigerators taller, won't fit. Ideas?
Comments (24)I had a height problem with my new refrigerator. It fit the standard 36” wide cutout in the cabinetry, but the raised hinges on the newer refrigerator would not allow the cabinet doors above to open. The best solution would be getting or making a new bridge cabinet above the frige, and then cutting the existing matching cabinets doors to a shorter hieght. Quite a chore. Instead I just removed the cabinet hinge mounting screw and now use the doors as simply removable panels. Problem solved the lazy mans way....See Moresearch for quiet refrigerator continues, returning Kenmore Elite
Comments (43)I got a Whirlpool 33 inch wide bottom load freezer /fridge at my new build about 2 months ago. My GC plugged it in immediately, since it was horrendously hot and he wanted to keep some cool water available (and his diabetes meds safely chilled). I was up there earlier today and the item has now been moved to its permanent location. It has been running for two months, and yes, I said, go run it.... even though it is not remotely containing enough items (and nothing at all in the freezer compartment) -- when I was there today it was so silent I had to open both doors to see that it was actually chilling and freezing in the respective compartments. I was at my build for about 2 hours and when it kicked "on" -- no apparent sounds! (Oh, yes, now that it is properly situated, I'm bringing up a bunch of frozen goods next visit so it can do its thing energy-efficiently -- and so I can defrost and shut down my stand-alone freezer I have back here at my original home... )...See MoreKenmore Supreme Central A/C LEMON
Comments (2)Your Sears Kenmore equipment is most likely made by Heil. This equipment is not built to last. Sears subcontracts all installations. The result is poor installations and high prices. If you have a 10 year parts warranty you still have to pay for labor. There is no limit as to what can be charged. It is industry practice not to include refrigerant as a part. In many cases you have to pay for any that is needed. Your system uses R22 which is getting more expensive each year. I would also be annoyed if I had to pay for lost refrigerant. If you plan to move in the next two years, then you could fix it now and hope it continues to work until the day you move. If you plan on staying longer, then you should cut your losses and replace the system. Plead your case with Sears and see if they will give you the money for the compressor. I doubt they will but it is worth a try. Don't use the money towards another engagement with Sears. Find a reputable HVAC contractor. Don't buy from big box stores....See MoreWhere should I get my refrigerator fixed? Sears, BestBuy, local,etc...
Comments (3)See if your neighborhood has a "Nextdoor" or Facebook other online social group where you can get local recommendations (You might not have time for this now, but these groups are helpful for this sort of thing, so find one for the future!). Or ask the guy next door...I'd go independent and hope for the best....See Morecovingtoncat
