I had my computer wiped clean by a shop, twice over the last two weeks. I'm now trying to get back the things that they got rid of. They reinstalled the Dell disk with all those programs, but I had to reinstall my printer/scanner. The first problem is the scanner no longer has the prompt to scan any longer on my start page. The only way I can print is by using my File drop down at the top of the page now. I can't figure out how to scan pictures because there is nowhere to scan anything from now. I don't want to call Dell because they charge an arm and a leg just to speak to someone and the computer repair shop I took it to is closed today. Can anyone help me?

Second one is Mozilla thunderbird. I had been using their e-mail for some time now and had pictures saved and all my e-mail contacts saved on this page. If they wiped it out, which looks like they did. They saved something that says Mozilla thudnerbird but I can't open it. So, I downloaded another copy of the software from their site. If I no longer have the original in my computer is all that information gone forever? Or does Mozilla have it stored on my account somewhere? I can't find a website for e-mail site, just downloading sites for them. I also can't find out how to contact them directly and ask this question.

I'm confused (most of they time anyway).

Are you wanting to scan or print.
I do see that if I go Start>My Computer>And right click on my Dell printer, there will be an option to scan. From there I see a choice of Abby reader, or Scanner and camera wizard. What do you see?
Last week Dell and I emptied mine, so I too am trying to get everything put back on it. They just did the Operating System with me.

There is also a scan button on the printer itself.

Is your Dell out of warranty? If not, they should be able to help you with any settings necessary.

Another way to access the Windows Scanner and camera Wizard is located in the Control Panel.

Dell software support is not usually covered under warranty. They will help you restore to factory settings under warranty.

In theory, yes. In actuality, mostly no. From one brand and model to the next, most PCs operate at the same voltage, plus or minus a bit, and use mostly the same hardware inside purchased from the same suppliers, batteries included. What can vary in batteries is the physical size, location and type of connectors, storage capacity and hardware/software for communication and control. Batteries tend to be of custom size by brand and model to fit into the compartment available, Also, some brands do have proprietary battery firmware. Can you put a Ford engine into a Chevy? Sure, but the size, the connections and the management is going to take a lot of effort to get it to work. Cheaper and easier to put a Chevy engine into a Chevy. Same with batteries. For both PCs and phones, there are aftermarket batteries for some models that may fit and work. They don't tend to be of the same quality as an OEM part and frequently have less storage capacity (fewer mAh). You have to be careful when you order an extra battery from a third party seller, sometimes there's an obvious reason why what you're looking at is cheaper than what the manufacturer sells.

On the upper right hand corner of the screen below the X, you will see three dots: Click that and a screen will pop up. Scroll down that screen to Settings. Click on Settings and scroll down to Font Size. Click on the triangle on that line and change it to Medium.

Just for the record! And to extrapolate on what Maifleur has contributed. When you "save as" a photo or any piece that you find on the internet that you want to use for your own or post to a thread...please...change the name or number of the photo or piece to your own name [i.e. "winters woof"] or number [winter 123] when you "save as". Otherwise...you're stealing bandwidth and that is not only technically illegal...it's considered very bad manners by the internet community as a whole. Some copyrighted material is coded so it won't allow linking but not all. Some sites are careful with their material and they move it around from time-to-time. If you saved it and didn't "own it" by giving it a new name...wherever you used it...the vision will suddenly disappear from view. Read through the info linked below. Maybe try hitting F11? Or maybe there's something in this video... I think if it were me and I needed to stick with Windows, instead of resetting to a no longer supported OS, I'd try upgrading to Windows 10 for free. Will it activate? I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not. How to get Windows 10 for free Personally though, being a Linux user, I'd download Linux, write the ISO to USB Flash, boot it up and install Linux. I use this one but there are many good ones. Linux wouldn't be much good for a gamer but for almost everyone else it would probably be fine. Especially coming on a free computer. :-)

Sue, there is no longer a Dell printer/scanner option on my start menu and when I bring up the printer it doesn't offer an option for the scanner. It's also not on the Control panel Pam. I guess I'm going to have to call Dell, as much as I hate to.

Probably just need to uninstall/reinstall that printer/scanner software. Sounds like it had a snafu installing or you installed the wrong driver.

Might try opening any graphic program and then from the File menu and then usually the item marked 'Import Twain' and then 'Aquire Image'.

Are you still under warranty with Dell? If so, they have always been great to try and help me through things...b4 we end up reformatting.

I'd probably just uninstall and reinstall it again as Mikie suggested.

Do you have a 'good' Dell number...one that is not in India?
I've got a good English speaking number here somewhere if you'd like me to look for it.

Open the File menu on your Paint Shop Pro, or other graphic program. There is probably an option for TWAIN/Aquire to turn on your scanner and scan the picture into that graphic program.

Paint shop is gone too. Yes, it's Windows XP. I haven't had time to call Dell and find out what to do. Maybe one of these days when I'm off I'll redownload the cd that came with the computer. Maybe the shop didn't finish it?
