I am trying to email someone at a large organization. The email next to her name is a hyperlink that says "contact@xxx.xxx.edu". Just to be clear the actual email says "contact" and her name is not part of the email address that is showing.

When I press the hyperlink it takes me to Outlook. For various reasons, I don't want to set up Outlook or use it. Is there another way of finding out the full email address without using the hyperlink? I tried copying it and also opening it in a different tab and still came up with the contact format with no name.

If I am making sense, does anyone have any ideas? I realize I can just call for the info but this happens occasionally and I'd like to figure it out.

Oh, I misunderstood your question. I thought you simply wanted to send your e-mail from gmail or other e-mail provider. rather than outlook. I would assume that

contact@xxx.xxx

is the legitimate e-mail address. It was set up to receive messages from the public without IDing who is receiving the e-mail.

Did you try right-clicking on the hyperlink? That should give option of copying e-mail address.

Yes, I already tried right clicking to copy, right clicking to view the source and right clicking to open in a new tab. All I get is a contact.xxxx address with no name.

call your telephone people or internet server. They can walk you through it. Our phone company will send out their telephone guy and he'll help you. It is most likly an easy fix. Our server has a program that I use. The only mail I get is people I have on my "allways allow list" Otherwise it all goes into my "spam" folder. Then I check it for other email I want or just delete it. not sure if I explained it verywell but I'd first call your telephone co.

I run my laptop and phone batteries down occasionally, but usually when I get the 'low battery' alert, I plug it in. Most manufacturer batteries are warrantied for only 12 months and potentially could reach the point of not accepting a charge after that time frame. If it runs completely down, you always have the option to plug in the electrical power to bring your laptop back to life. Your data is safe :-) Data is stored on the hard drive, which could be accessed from another computer if the laptop dies. Do you know how to copy your files from the computer onto a USB flash or thumb drive? Then you could save your data in two places, or better yet make a third backup of important data and keep it in your safe deposit box.

I don't really even understand the difference. between a search engine and the browser? the browser would be IE, Firefox, MS Edge, Chrome... that's where you have your tabs, favorites list etc search engine would be - google, bing etc - what you pull up in your browser to search the internet. I stick with google for searching and I hate MS Edge. Will be reDLing IE in the next few days to give it a whirl if I can port over my favorites list. Otherwise I'm not switching even tho MSE is a pita.

Maybe try it on your phone? I had this issue recently, but I don't remember how I resolved it!

Great idea about the phone. I avoided outlook but still got the generic contact.edu with no name. So perhaps there is an issue with the hyper link. Thanks!

Is there a way you can find her personal e-mail? An address that actually uses the word "contact" in it instead of the person's name sounds like it was set up to receive mail from the general public. She may or may not check it. I'd call her and get her personal email or ask her if that other address is valid.

My last work email address was firstname.lastname@company.com.

If you hover over the hyperlink, you should be able to view the address.

Hovering over the hyperlink also just shows contact.edu. I just looked at the whole page which is a list of people working in this department. Some people's hyperlinks are realname.edu. Others have contact.edu. So, I am assuming that the contact.edu people don't have direct work emails. Weird.

My bet is webpage developer error.... they were probably working from a webpage template that said "contact.edu" and they were supposed to replace it with the actual email address of the person or dept or whatever.

Follow the same format as the "realname" ones, but substituting the name of the person you want to contact, and it should work. If it doesn't work, all you'll get is a bounced email to verify it. Some mail servers will notify immediately if there's a bounce, and others will attempt delivery for days before you're notified of a bounce, so send it and wait. :)

For our business website, I used “contact@“ for general inquiries from the public. Email was redirected to my regular email account from there.
