No Audio Detected???

I have a HPdv5000 laptop running xp sp2 I have never had a problem until yesterday..Yesterday morning when I booted the pc on it took forever to start..I didn't set right here to watch it so I don't really know what all happen but when I walked by I caught a quick glimps of a screen that said something about something not found and it gave off some numbers behind it.There was maybe 3-4 of these in a row..It was so fast that I didn't get to really see what the numbers or what it said..Sound seemed to work ok for me yesterday after this but, Last evening I shut down as I was leaving for a few hours..The sound has not worked since..

I have went into the control panel to the sound and checked things out there and it shows something about no audio devive detected..

Now..the day before I deleted some old Adobe coloring picture files that the kids used to have in there to print coloring pictures..But I did have some registery back-up files in there from cleaning registery that I may have deleted..

Any ideas to get this fixed??

You could start looking here
for the Audio Driver.
Don't know if you have the dv5000 CTO, dv5000ea, or the dv5000t CTO, and whether it's for Vista or XP.

Starting with the simple things. You didn't mention a reboot or a system restore. What did you recently do out of the ordinary, if anything? Any updates or upgrades? Software removal or additions? Windows Updates? Software reconfigurations? Full system scan with your AV and malware detection software(s) of choice? Thunderstorms or power surges? ----------------- -------Rebooted,System restore, nothing new, automatic updates and driver downloads, full system scan and malware (which said some files could not be scanned), thunderstorms after loss of sound.

I work as a an electrician/teledata installer and can offer a few tips. Consider a central location to route all your cables in the entire house and use a residental media hub like the one Leviton sells it allows you to add various components based on your needs . Buy having all your cables and components in one location it allows for a convenient place to do all your switching, cross-connects and networking in one place, plus the ability to adjust for future technologies. You could add multiplexers for security, convert a future fiber optic internet connection into an Ethernet swich that coverts signal for distribution devices as needed and many others options. Cat 5e/6 cables offer a lot of flexibility, baluns are the peices that can be soldered or terminated on the ends of an cat5e/6 cable allowing it to adapt to hdmi and a wide array of other connection types. Other users who offered the advice on raceways are correct smerf tube is a good way to go be sure to get a pull string or something similar (I use 16 awg thhn electrical wire) installed before closing the walls. Thank you so so much. But I clicked on the 6.0 version or something like that and it downloaded fine, and I went to load it so I could use it and it says, "The file "iTunes Library.itl cannot be reached because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." Any ideas?

I don't find your questions appropriate for a public message board..If you are site owner/moderator I am sorry, But if this information is so important to the site then you need to make a disclaimer before one is allowed to post a question.I have been on this site for years (even before when we used to have to donate to a membership to be able to post) and I have to say thanks to all who have help me over the years as well as thanks to all who help make this message board possible..

What is the agenda of your question?

I think all zep516 meant was that you gave no indication of what you did to make the audio in your laptop work again. It would be of interest and possibly help to others if you would post this information.

What was my agenda? I wanted you to post the solution to the problem, without the solution the thread is useless to anyone reading it, people read these threads looking for solutions to problems, your thread had no solution posted. I did not mean anything by it, perhaps I could have phrased it better.

If my good friend Grandms would not have posted I probably won't share my thoughts on this, but i don't want her out on a ledge by herself.

I agree with her.

I read the thread as; I have a problem and need some assistance, I fixed it on my own, The forum is not just for questions but also for solutions too so how did you resolve your concern?

The communication apparently went south after that. In my mind its just a refresher on how we all have to be careful and complete when we post.

I am sorry, I guess I have misunderstood your question..There used to be allot of complaints of business's and computor repair techs coming here for free help..I thought you was asking if I was a tech or if I was repairing my personal pc..

My problem was a corrupt file in the driver..The link above helped me find the driver I needed..I found the file by going to- Start-Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices then the Hardware tab..I clicked through the names of the hardware files and one said something like file not found or not working correctly..Then I right clicked it and deleted it..Then I went to the link above and clicked my PC model in the list and looked through the audio drivers and found the name of the one I deleted and downloaded/installed it..Then it was working fine...

I truly am sorry for flying off the handle like I did..I just took your question the wrong way..Sort of felt like you was asking who are you to post on my message board, lol
