Frustrating...would like help!! (please)

I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7. Using Microsoft Essentials for antivirus and has Malwarebites loaded. Don't laugh but still using dial-up at home, no way we can get high speed, isolated and too many hills for dish. I go into town for updates and am writing this from the library on their computer.
My problem at home is trying to access the internet, the computer is winding and grinding and with any luck after about 5 mins a page might open and most often it will not and it tells me to check my connection. When I am on high speed it will work but not as fast as the library computers. All my updates are current and I do full scans more than regular. (Nothing found) Seem like there are a lot of unnecessary programs running when I go on the internet and I don't know how to check nor how to stop them. I go into the Safe Mode to try and do a Defrag, but it will not allow me, I can do one but not in the Safe Mode.
I've had it into the shop many times to get it checked and it comes back not too bad, but after a period it goes back to its old ways.
Sorry for the ramble, but I am a Senior and like to do a little surfing, nothing serious!!!

Today's web pages are so complex...so overloaded with content and ads that IMHO it is virtually useless to try and use the web on dial-up. You yourself said "when I am on high speed it will work"...and that's the tip-off to your problem. I doubt if you have any kind of computer problem that...if fixed...would improve your speed.

Could be your provider(??) Any others to choose from?? Have had, and still use dial-up with no problems. Don't do any fancy on line stuff, games, music, etc. If I need a gb download, take a stick and do it from work. Hope you can resolve the issue and have a little fun.

How much water is it receiving? Looks healthy fo me. Look on underside of yellowing leaves for any black dots, which could indicate the start of a fungal disease called black spot. You can remove those leaves & any fallen leaves below the rose. to prevent the spores from reinfecting the plant. Also apply mulch around your roses. This helps prevent fungal spores found naturally in the soil from splashing upward when it rains or you water. The mulch also acts as a weed block and decreases watering requirements by keeping the soil below moist. Use about a 3” layer. Don’t pile the mulch against the canes either.

That is a severely TRADITIONAL kitchen design & not transitional with the raised panel doors, columns & arched cornices. The glaze on the cabinet makes it even more traditional in style. See the examples below. Traditional solutions all.

It sounds like they are in transplant shock. And with the scorching weather we have had, that is not at all surprising. Correct me if I have this wrong, but you had them in containers first and now you have planted them in ground? When they were in the containers, were the containers indoors or outside? All of that is probably a moot point now though. Here's what my mom does. Whenever she plants something tender like that out in her garden, especially in this heat, she covers it for several days. She uses these mesh pop-up laundry bags. They are kinda genius. They provide airflow and sun but also a semblance of shade on the plant. If you don't have those, you could use some shade cloth. You can drape it over a tomato cage or anything else that will cover the plant but not allow the cloth to lay on top of it. Mom has even used buckets to cover the plants for a few days while their roots settle in before exposing them to the brutal sun. By the way, I have never heard that dahlias don't like a lot of water. I water mine daily. I do know however that they may not appreciate a lot of water on their foliage. So I use a watering can for mine. Hope this helps.

I like it! reminds me of Tamara days fireplace. you'll notice all the color she has on that wall. You have the almost identical room set up and light. does hers look like a black hole? no, it doesn't. It's stunning. You need accessories and color. I'd switch out the rug to something w/a bit more contrast. maybe a diff fan or light. Try doing some colorful art on that blank wall you have. copy what she did behind that one sofa on the wall. Instead of the dark mantel, what if you did a thicker white oak one? on the hearth, try some orchids or small green plants. here's some art/color that you seriously need on that wall. and a few plants. the green against the black really pops. even if you dont' do the white oak mantel, please get something thicker. See? see if you can get a frame for you tv. or, one of those covers that let you display art over the top of it. that would be the perfect answer (but you still need some major art on that blank wall) maybe a wood coffee table. everything in the room (except the black) is muted and creamy. you need some contrast that goes w/the start black so that both spots work together. make sense? the other one she did. a white mantel surround.

Using Windows: type msconfig in the Start Menu search bar. Review the contents of the Startup and Services tabs. Or,

Download and install the free application WinPatrol.

Azinoh was right....In the 90's websites were designed specifically to be low overhead. They were designed to load in a specific amount of time over dial-up. Now they are designed to load in a specific amount of time over a DSL/Cable connection. There are also a lot of abilities enabled with a web page opposed to how it used to be.

What is most likely happening is that the web page loading is timing out over the dialup line. You might want to adjust this for your particular browser and see if it helps.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Computer will not let me go on line now, keeps clicking me back to working " off line".
Along with your suggestions I know there is a virus or trojan deep within this machine that when I take it to the shop they are unable to clean it completely for me.
As I said in my original post, I update regularly and do full scans, but find nothing, so the only thing left is to get a new one!!!

My older XP that has minimal memory but lots of open space on disk - on Comcast cable - grinds away primarily from tracking cookies. Microsoft Essentials doesn't do a very good job on my XP computer. I have tried it 3 times without success. Irrespective of the settings on my browser and Essentials, 3rd party cookies still get through. When I clean out the those cookies, my XP does very well. Download Superantispyware -- free -- and run it doing Complete Scan. If you get no good results, you can remove the free software if you do not want it.
