System Standby Failed Msg..

Hi Everyone,

WXP Home Ed. Ver. 5.1.2600 IE 7

NO screensaver applied at the moment. When the pc is idle for awhile I get this dialog box msg:

System Standby Failed

The device driver for the Compaq Easy Access PS2 Internet Keyboard device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists you may need to update this driver. click okay

Is this because no screen saver is applied right now? How or what or should anything be done to prevent further messages of this kind regarding this issue. Thank yo.

Right click my computer, choose properties, click hardware tab, select Device manger, look for your keyboard, right click on it choose up-date driver.

I followed your path and the Hardware Update Wizard came up with this dialog box:
If your hardware cmae with an install CD or floppy insert it now. What do you want the wizard to do.
Install the software automatically (Reccomended)
Install from a list of specific locations. (Advanced)

I checked this first one and after the wizard did its search I got this msg:
The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed. Chose what you want to do:
To keep the current software and finish
To search again in another location, click back.

I have five CD all say Restoration CD #'s 1-5 if one of these is the installation disc how would I know which one it is? What would you reccomend now? Continued thanks.

The automatic switch would have worked great with your 2 smaller, less thirsty A/C units. When one A/C wants to start up, the system checks to see there is enough capacity at that time. If not the A/C unit is "shed" until it can safely be started. The 2 biggest advantages of the automatic switch & standby NG/LP generator are that: 1) it doesn't require using or storing or trying to go out & get gasoline when you need to run it 2) it is automatic & my wife can benefit from it running when I'm not at home. She would never be able to drag the portable generator out & hook it up & get it started & decide what circuits to feed if I were not home. The biggest disadvantage is cost. You also need a lockout system to prevent potentially backfeeding power up the line & killing a power company worker who is trying to get your power back on. I have heard of people with home generators being criminally charged for doing this, plus the inevitable $1M lawsuit.

Solar hot water vs. tankless systems

My father an architect, designed and built his dream home back in 76, he was very forward thinking and meticulous in his planning. He installed a solar hot water heater at time of construction. I can tell you from.... How many years experience? 34 years of use, and they still own the house that it works flawlessly. The water is crazy crazy hot. So hot that if little kids were in the house you would have to work on a way to control that. With a very large tank holding your hot water sorry wish I knew the number here but it's a big one, there is always plenty. On the rare occasion that we have 3-4 days of clouds/ rain you would then flip on the booster. This has rarely been used. Always sunny in south Fla. After the few hurricanes we have been through and lost power for sometimes weeks! How nice to take a hot shower, run the dishwashers (with a generator tied in of course)and have hot water to do so. About 10 years ago I guess the panel was replaced with a new one (they replace things before they break and fail) and had a new custom stainless steel tank installed sorry don't know the particulars on that. Again it has been flawless and is the one thing in the house that doesn't require any maintenance. BTW I have been hearing from people that they have a pump with their solar system. We don't and I don't know why you would need this, seems like might be future maintenance. Again I only have experience with ours. I don't know what the cost savings over time is. I know in my own house I have a timer set on my regular water heater to save money and I can tell you I have had 3 time clocks fail almost one after another, in 10 years I think I am on my 4th or 5th humm how much money did I save there? Plus there have been plenty of times I have had to wait around waiting for the water to get hot and plenty of times we ran the tank down and finished up cooler then desired. I wish I had pushed for my house to get a panel when my parents were getting theirs replaced. I am kicking myself hard for that one. Anyway... In short it's a win win.

Let me save you and others from a potentially huge mistake. I have no grudge here. I only share my witness to a system that is not worth my time and has severely devalued our pool's appearance. This is probably not an option to consider if converting from another system. Converted from Salt one year ago and within one week the system began stealing my life. With the salt system, my pool service was invisible except for needing to pay for their work by check once a month. We had a beautiful pool. The Cu distributor kept promising results and installed a pH system and wired the Cu unit to my panel for automation. This system does not stop algae while at the same time it penetrates your plaster with copper stains until your bright white plaster becomes black. Where I never did anything before but enjoy the pool and receive compliments, I am a slave to shocking it 2 or 3 times a week and scrubbing algae every few days or so. Whatever the parameters are of my pool (Dallas TX, white plaster over Gunite, glass filter) - this system has destroyed the $85k appearance of the pool to something that would be better replaced by landscape. Algae develops no matter what the Cu or pH level. It's sneaky stuff. It begins as a clear slime you can detect on the cleaner hose. Then you can see its presence when you stir up the pool floor or steps with a brush--it kind of clouds when you stir it up. Then it begins to turn a very light lime green ever so slightly until BOOM you have a full tilt bloom in the water and on the walls. Your water clarity drops to about 30 inches. The only thing that returns clarity is shock (I use two pounds in a 17k gallon system) and to keep the system running. This is way more work and way more chemistry loading than ever was necessary with Salt. Our pool service winces each visit wondering how he can make it look like he was able to make it look with Salt. Guests look at the pool and ask, "What's wrong with your pool?" The distributor refuses to acknowledge the system does not work at this installation and insists on tweaking things. Tweaking things is not making the Cu staining go away nor decreasing the aggressive recovery of this Cu defiant algae. I can temporarily remove Cu stains with shock or acid, but the Cu staining is aggressively defiant as well at returning. We are insisting the distributor return the pool back to the condition it was prior to this black magic equipment was installed. He is in a difficult position now, but he gave his word he would replace it if it did not perform to our satisfaction. His work is of good quality, it's the equipment that just doesn't work as advertised at this installation. Consider yourself informed.

Thanks for all the replies! My reason for running the #6 ground is that I already have it. If I didn't, I'd go with the #8 for sure. I know that code here does not require sch80, and my only reason to run 2" was ease of pulling the #6 conductors. If memory serves, the conduit fill calculator I checked specified 1" or 1 1/4" for 4 pieces of #6 and 2 of #12. That would indeed make termination easier. Maybe pulling the #6 through 1" or 1 1/4" won't be that difficult, I do not know. I have never pulled #6 through conduit before. I have not verified as of yet, but this generator was previously installed localy (same codes apply). I have yet to install the generator itself into the enclosure and reconnect the leads from the generator head. However, I was under the understanding that the critical thing on the ground is that it is not grounded except to be connected to the ground wire that will run back to the ground bar in the breaker panel? Ditto on the neutral. Am I not understanding something correctly, or am I missing something?

No those are restoration cd's to reinstall xp. The wizard wants or means the cd that came with the keyboard, the only thing I can say is go to hp site (compaq) look for your key board model and look for driver I could not find it there.
This could be a glitch, try this disconnect the keyboard now restart, and connect the keyboard a real shot in the dark.. Did this just start to happen? Have you just added this keyboard?

I'd probably go to www.hp.com and search support for drivers for that computer / keyboard.

STOP - DON'T RESTORE!

Please go to Power options in the control panel. Is the Power Scheme setting on Home/Office Desk or Always On? If not, choose one of those settings.

Additionally, Set the system standby to NEVER.

This should remedy your issue. Do Not Restore at this point!

The next thing I want you to do is open the device manager. This is found in the control panel - system - Hardware - device manger.

Is there an exclamation point on ANY of the devices named? Are there any red X's on any of the devices named?

If there is a yellow exclamation (!) on a device, you have a problem with the driver and the driver should be rolled back, updated or re-installed.

If there is a red X, the device has been disabled. If a device is disabled you can enable it by right clicking on the device with the red X and then choose enable.

Your answer to the problem will most likely be solved in the power options. The power schemes come into play when you are using a notebook or laptop running on batteries. Unless you are super conservative with power consumption, making sure your setting are as I suggest is the best way to go.

This pc and keyboard were just given to me, an upgrade from the W98 I was using. I don't know much about what's in it. This has been happening since I got it and no the keyboard was setup up the same night everything else was. Is the keyboard model PS2 that was mentioned in the msg. I got? Thank you Zep and Mikie. Any other suggestions, I be here.

I as well am getting this issue. I'll check the profiles and device manager and see if that helps. Sapphires, did this resolve your problem? I'm wondering if its a glitch in a windows update that only affected some computers.
