I know that last fall GE released the newer Advantium OTR as a GE Profile and GE Cafe. Both of the 120v units had the same features and touch control pad, but the exterior design of the units were different to match the Profile or Cafe line. There is also the 240v model, but its more expensive and requires a 240v outlet. I hadn't heard that there were issues with the touch pad, does it not work right? Two years ago when out 8 year old GE OTR microwave died, we looked at the current Advantium model at that time and didn't like how it looked, so we got the GE Profile OTR Convection Microwave in stainless. It looks nice and convection works well, tough with only a 1500w heating element it can take 10 min to preheat. The only thing I don't like about it is the black control pad with white numbers/letters. It is hard to see in low-light. When I saw the new Advantium in the store last year, and the touch pad was backlit, it made we wish I had that one instead, if only my older microwave would have lasted me a year longer. I'm not a fan of the Cafe design, think the Profile series looks better.

always been a Sharp fan for Convecton Microwaves....but there is this new oven by halftimeovens.....they sell the "halftime" and the 4X. The 4X using micro and convection at the same time and requires a 20amp circuit. I know the Sharp, and am confident in it, the 4X sounds great, but it's some company out of nowhere, only sold online and thru wall mart, so I'm dubious. I'd like a Convection Micro for my Airstream Trailer, plus, I'm remodling a kitchen and was going to go with an Advantium 120, but wonder if this is better???? Thoughts? Thanks!! Dan

Undercounter install of the 240 Advantium is not allowed according to it's instructions. There are people who have done it anyway. I plan to go with the Bosch benchmark speed cooker to get 240 undercounter--they allow that installation. There appear to be zero user reviews however and it is very $$$. I posted in appliances a week or so ago and got no responses. Sigh. I believe there is also a jenn air, but I have found even less information about it. The Electrolux has been discontinued as far as I can tell. And the remaining options are less than 30 inches.

I have the Advantium Pro 240V and I use it primarily as a microwave and extra oven. It works great for that. The real deal, however, is the speed features. It combines the convection heat, microwaves and halogen (radiant) heat for speed cooking. I don't use it as often as I expected to because the reason for speed sort of dried up, but it's pretty awesome. There is a steep learning curve if you want to create your own settings, but there are also some programmed settings which you can adapt, and a recipe book which you can also use for clues. It has a pretty large (i.e. oven sized) cavity, so it's not fast to preheat, but I do use it for things analogous to your chicken fingers (like frozen appetizers), mostly because it's convenient (correct side of kitchen) and also because I think the turn table is an asset to those small things. There are sensors for things like popcorn and frozen vegetables which work very well. Since microwaves degrade over time, it's an expensive option if you use a microwave a lot. I do use the microwave settings on mine several times per day, but rarely for more than a minute or two. As a convection oven, I can get three 2 qt. casseroles on the turntable to reheat, and there's a wire rack that goes across the middle which will hold my 17" Pyrex rectangular baking dish. I don't do a lot of actual cooking in the Advantium, but it does it fine. I just have two other ovens for that.
