No you don't need that running. You can always update Java in the control panel when needed. About once a month a new Java version comes out. Or you can go here and download the latest version see link. Version 6 Update 21 In your add / remove program list or in Windows Vista / Windows 7. Programs & Features. You should remove any older versions listed. Those are not needed. To up-Date Java in the control panel. Click >Start >Control panel in there look for Java looks like a coffee cup. Double click it and at the top should be an up-Date tab. Only install Java and uncheck any pre- checked software like Open Office. Here is a link that might be useful: java.com
