Well you could of course go to add remove and remove sp3 and see if that corrected the problem then try to install it again but I would definitely try the re-install while in safe mode so that all un-necessary items are not loaded, sp3 is a problem child for a lot of programs and firewalls can have issues, which is why they highly advise disabling all security programs prior to install or do it in safe mode, not knowing how or in what order the person did yours it would be hard to know.

I have not used Kerio but I know a lot of people on BBR do, so a good place to go and ask would be there on the security section of the forums.

Well, we just paid a 'computer guy' $75 to do the update/install for us and he did so after wiping the HD and loading XP SP3 from his own disc. So his installation was about as 'clean' as possible -- no existing programs to complicate or interfere with things, AFAIK. We really don't want to spend more money on a re-installation. And I wouldn't want to do anything like this on my own (esp. not on dial-up !!). :-)

And I'll check out the link you provided. And if worse comes to worse I can always try Commodo.

Thanks again for the comments ! I had chosen to try Commodo because it was the #2 pick at the site you recommend on occasion (techsupportalert). But, since the actual user of the laptop in question (my aunt, a computer novice), I appreciate your warning about that firewall. I'll try one of the others, though likely not ZA, since I have tried that on other computers of ours and it unfortunately caused issues. I'm sure one of your other suggested firewalls will do the trick, though, if I can't get Sunbelt's Kerio FW squared away.

I did a quick Google on the Kerio configuration. It sounds as if you need to place the websites that generate the error into the exception list. Here is the text that I found using Yahoo Mail as an example (you would of course type in *.www.whatever website you want.com:

"Double-click the Kerio Personal Firewall icon to open the firewall configuration.
Click the Web tab on the left.
In the Site Exceptions tab, click the "Add" button, and enter *.mail.yahoo.com for the www server address. Yes, you've read this correctlyÂan asterisk, followed by a period, then mail-dot-yahoo-dot-com.
Click "OK."
Click "OK" to save and close the configuration.
