Cleaning Le Creuset Roaster
Comments (18)Couple things - old-style phenolic knobs can't be heated above about 375°F, but the new style phenolics (with only the name "Le Creuset" and *without* the concentric "C" logo) and the metal knobs can go up to about 500°F (hot enough to bake bread like a steam oven). Also, as for cleaning very thickly patina'd enameled cast iron, an overnight soak with yellow cap Heavy Duty Easy Off oven cleaner (the kind with sodium hydroxide/lye) will work nothing short of miracles. Don some kitchen gloves, spray oven cleaner all over the pan, wrap it up in a garbage bag and close the top so the cleaner doesn't dry out as it sits. Come back to the next morning and re-don your gloves, then wipe it out with a couple paper towels and give it a good wash with dish soap. The lye in the cleaner will dissolve the baked-on oils, and you'll have a very close facsimile of a factory reset. For extra thick baked-on crud, maybe do two rounds. Just be sure to wear gloves because lye *is* caustic (as anyone who remembers the soapmaking scene in Fight Club can tell you), so you don't want to get it on your e skin, or inhale the fumes....See MoreLe Creuset Black Enamel Cast Iron vs. White Enamel Cast Iron
Comments (8)The white color has been discontinued replaced with Dune. The lighter enamel interior is actually a sand color. The black enamel is better for high temp cooking so it's used on their frypans, grill pans and woks. It's better for that purpose. It's definitely not inferior, just better suited for the job. The only line that has the black enamel on all the pieces in the black matte or satin black. The advantage is the black will season with use, and doesn't show staining as the sand enamel will over time....See MoreSlightly OT Poll - How Do You Store Le Creuset Dutch Ovens?
Comments (30)We just bought the 5 shelf iron display. The shelves are not wide enough for the large 9 1/2 qt oval dutch oven. The 5 1/2 qt and 3 1/2 qt round ones look great on it. I am a little disappointed the large oval doesn't fit. I tried putting it on top, but, since it's the largest pot in the mix, it looked strange. Also, we have the 3 1/2 qt braiser, it fits, but, you have to turn it so the handles don't hit the bars on the side. So for now, the stand and the other pans in the mix sit in my bay window. It's the only place I could see all of them and not keep them in a cabinet. For me, they are heavy, it's easier to lift them from about half counter height. And it makes for a nice window display. We paid alot for them, it would be awful just to hide them away....See MoreLe Creuset fans?
Comments (132)omgosh!!!! I'm still in the middle of trying to buy two (both sauce pots) for my partner. UNFortunately, the Le Crueset website doesn't take Paypal :( . They pretty much demand a credit (or debit card) which i do not have. Well, we have several, but she pays the bills and gets the online notices of each use! So i can't use a CC .... I went to the closest brick'n-mortar shop and after i selected the two i wanted to buy (ttl about 600$~!) clerk said they can't take a check (even though i have a drivers license and a couple of credit cards). Soooooo......i went to my Paypal account and ordered a Debit card. It FINALLY arrived and i activated it. Went back to Le Crueset website and tried to pay for the two i have in my cart. Welllll....turns out the card number didn't work. So i went back to paypal and discovered that how that thing works if you have to transfer money from your bank into the paypal balance (it doesn't draw out as you use the card like a regular Paypal purchase works!) ..... So i moved more than enough and and am now waiting waiting waiting the 2-3 (Working) days for the funds to be there. THEN!!! hopefully, the two items i have in my cart will still be available and will ship in time to get here before Christmas. LONG LONG LONG story (sorry) but frustrating. Why anyone won't take Paypal is beyond me. Stupid credit cards.... why are they so important?...See Morearley_gw
