Computer date and time question.

Recently, my computer had been acting up and, when I brought it in for service, the guy said we would have to wipe it clean and start over. I am gradually getting things back, but some things come back a little different from what they were. One of the things is the date and time, in the lower right hand corner. I had it set up to read day, date and 24 hour time, ie: Monday, 8 Nov. 2010, 1430. Now I just get the time as AM and PM, with no day or date. I know there is a pretty simple way to change this, but I can't find it. Can anyone help?

Someone told me a method to fix it, but it's not exactly what I want.

What I have now, is a bar (taskbar?) at the bottom, that is at least an inch and a half high. (on a 17 inch monitor) The bar is 3 lines high, and reads as follows:

12:50 AM

Wednesday

11/10/2010

What I had, and would like to have again, is, on one line:

Wednesday 10 November 2010, 2310.

Try putting your mouse on the very top edge of the Task bar, when the mouse changes to an arrow left click and hold, now drag the edge of the task bar down towards the bottom. That should re-size the task bar and may work for you.

You might first have to right click on an empty area on the task bar to see if it's locked. If it is locked, click on the check mark to remove the check mark this will unlock the Task Bar, now it should be able to be re-sized, as described above....

I saw the title of this thread and was sure my husband must have found this site! hee hee He says I'm completely addicted, and I am. I am retired and I spend way too much time on my PC. The only thing that saves me is I love the outdoors so I do make myself get off and go do my chores. When I give hubby lunch and he sits down in front of ESPN on TV, then I take my lunch break with Huey (that's my PC's name....silly huh?) After dinner then he resumes his spot in front of the TV and I'm back in the bedroom with Huey. In the Winter I follow a couple of TV shows, but it is hard to pull myself away, that goodness for DVR!! My Mom lives across the US and we have been e-mailing almost daily since '98 when we first got our computers. She is 82 and had a stroke this year and has been unable to use her machine and I really miss talking to her. She used to keep me supplied with computer games....Pop Cap and Big Fish which are pretty addictive. I have several forums that I check in on; I do my banking, pay my bills, and shop. I used to do a lot of genealogy but haven't for awhile, too busy with everything else. I love Facebook....great way to keep in touch. My Mom and I both have Mastercook which we keep our recipes on plus I love Allrecipes.com and it's forum. I have all my photos on my PC. I have 2 desktops and a laptop which keep me busy keeping them in working condition as you may notice from my many posts here. Am I sick or what!!! I could go on and on! hee hee PS, Raven, what is that thing, "pandigital novel"??? How much do they cost?

Thought I'd update. Got Windows installed without a hitch, Dell talked me through it. I debated whether to put Win 7 in since I was starting from scratch but worried some of my software might not work Everything went well except I couldn't find drivers for some things such as my wireless adapter so couldn't get on line. Called Linksys and they spent over an hour trying to get the driver in and finally did. That was the best part, finally getting on line and getting hit with a zillion MS updates. I have misplaced or lost some software. We moved here in March and I could not locate my Office disk, wireless mouse/keyboard software and a few other things, might have gotten lost in the move. I'm most concerned about Office 07. I paid for it. Dell says they can't help and I could try contacting MS and see if they would do anything. I haven't moved any of my files back yet. Otherwise, I feel like the computer runs better than when it was new. Things seem different, have to fool with fonts and views, but I'm amazed how effortlessly the machine runs. This computer always seemed to have a few 'glitches' but I was used to it. Now it seems so fast and smooth (of course there isn't much running on it yet.) I don't know how to thank everyone for all the support and help I received. You are the best friends anyone could ever ask for. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks! Glad to hear you all are doing ok . My son too is a walking disaster, must be a boy thing. When he broke his arm we did get questioned a lot on how it happened. I guess maybe I was too calm. When they told me they had to X-Ray his arm to see if it was broken, I told them I didn't think they needed to. Maybe to see how bad it was but, it was obviously broken. (Nifty 30 degree angle where there shouldn't have been one was a clear give away) When he threw up from the pain meds I just calmly asked for a pair of scissors to cut his shirt off. I couldn't see pulling it over his head and dumping it in his hair. My DH was not so calm, I kept sending him home for things (clean cloths, let the dog out...) I guess one parent, usually the mom, is wired to get through whatever the situation. That little guy will probably give you plenty more. Sounds like he's a good little trouper. Thanks. That worked to resize the task bar, but the bottom 2 lines disappeared off the screen, and I'm left with only the AM/PM type time again. (It read 10:53 AM, a few minutes ago.)

If I mouse over my time, that's what shows above.

Just looking at the clock shows:

Windows 7 My task bar is as small as you can make it..

I wonder if you right click on the time (Clock) reset it time and date click apply ok whatever....and reboot the machine.

Thanks. I followed the instructions in the link, and got the format correct. (24 hr. clock, without AM/PM) However, it still left the time, day, and date on 3 lines, necesitating a very high taskbar. (and cutting into usable screen space) I did find something that moved everything to one line again, which is the way I had it originally.

I didn't realize there were this many steps to setting this up but, the last time we did this, I had my nephew helping, and I'm not sure what he did.
