Totally normal, as is a little condensation on the door itself.

It is a gas thing -- not a BlueStar thing. When gas burns, the primary combustion products are water ("steam") and carbon dioxide. You're seeing the steam condensing on the cool surfaces. Once the oven heats up, there is nothing cool enough ("below the dew point") to see the condensation.

It is just that I never had any of the gas ranges I have used in the past do this.

FWIW- unless the software has changed, every new thread kills an old one. You might consider adding future queries to an existing thread rather than create a new one each time.

For what it's worth: maybe yours is normal. Looking at your photo my oven had more mositure.

I've had 5 gas ovens in the last 5 years- that's 3 in my home, 1 at my vacation place and a new one for an apartment. 4 of the 5 were brand new. We had the Thermador for 20 years without any condensation. Only one oven developed condensation between the glass - that was a Dacor Epicure installed 4 years ago to replace the Thermador. Dacor tried to correct the problem by replacing the glass pack and insulation, when that failed Dacor offered to buy the oven back or replace it with a new Millenium. I took the new oven.

When the repair tech took the oven door apart to replace the glass the metal inside the door around the glass was rusted because of the excessive condensation. I don't know if this would have caused future problems but I'm glad I don't have to deal with it because my new Dacor doesn't get moisture between the glass.

It might be useful to call Blue Star and find out what they think about the condition. If the double glass window is collecting and retaining moisture between the panes it is most likely happening as the oven cools after being shut off. Either the twin glass is supposed to function as a sealed unit and has a leak or is supposed to be open to more air flow between the panes and it is being somehow restricted producing condensation. You might also try leaving the warm door fully open for an hour or so after use to see if that lessens or increases the problem the next time.

I do not think the 2 panes are a sealed unit. The door has slots in it all around its edge, and you can look into the slot and it appears they are just single panes and not sealed. I wonder how you clean dirty glass in the inside when it is not sealed being the slots will allow dust and junk to fall into the door...and between the glass.

I am so sorry- I must correct my previous post. The Thermador and the 2 Dacor ovens were electric. The gas ovens were Whirlpool.

laat2, I don't think the fall told us the condensation was happening between the panes. My guess it's not but rather on the inside of the inner pane, in which case as sfjeff says, it's a normal thing with gas ovens and for the reasons he says. It's almost inevitable: when the oven is first turned on the glass is cool, burning gas creates lots of water vapor and you get condensation. fall, my guess is either the BS venting made it more obvious than with your previous gas ovens or maybe you're watching more closely with a new appliance but this was almost certainly happening before, you just didn't notice. After all, there's normally not much reason to have the light on and be looking into an oven that's preheating.

Now, on the issue of cleaning between the panes, that is a problem. Mine have collected four years of dust between panes and drips from a spill that managed to get through the vent holes. I'm trying to decide if I want a clean oven window badly enough to disassemble the door.

Agree if the moisture is only present inside the oven for a short time it is fairly normal. I may have drawn an incorrect inference that that condensation area in question was the inner surface on one or both of the opposing glass panes within the door and the time for it to clear was not short. Fab range in any case.

Fall - If you don't have the manual, it is downloadable from Bluestar's site. Among other things, on page 11 it will tell you that...

During the first few minutes of operation a mild condensation may appear on the internal side of your oven door or the door windows. This is normal and will disappear as the oven warms.

If your experience is outside of what you would interpret as "normal" I would suggest contacting the mfr.

geesh, that cleaning link...what a mess the slit window creates.

Bumping this as I have a related (?) question: Blue Star has an option (it costs extra) to have an oven door without a window. Wondering what the pros and cons of this would be. No fogging or cleaning problems, naturally -- is it worth giving up the window for? My experience is you can't really see much through the window and have to open the door to check what's cooking . . .

Any thoughts?
