Hi Jane, First, do you notice how files have a period after the name and then 3 more letters? ie. Jane.txt or Jane.jpg If you haven't seen that then no wonder things are confusing. Back to PrtScr in layman's language. In the days before Windows operating system was developed by Bill Gates & friends, home computers ran on what we called DOS (Disk Operating System ?). We didn't have screen pictures/icons & a mouse. We had what looked like a sheet of typewritten text. It was a black background with white text. That's all. You had to memorize command words, like COPY, DELETE, PRINT, DIR to make the computer perform an action. So PrtScr was a great shortcut to print the typing on your screen since that was all that appeared on screen. Guess what! Windows developed a graphical interface (pictorial representations on your screen) that you could use a mouse to navigate. They bought out DOS. And decided to reprogram the PrtScr key to tell the computer to capture the image on your screen instead of printing it. For good reason. Can you imagine a printer printing every solid color border and every line and everything!!! Of course the ink manufacturers would love it. So this captured image is where??? Cyberspace? No, it's in a temporary memory place and will be lost if the computer is turned off or if the PrtScr key is touched again with a different screen showing. One of the benefits of the new capability of PrtScr is when a picture on the internet won't allow saving by right-clicking with the mouse. The picture disappears or a message box appears saying no saving, in effect. So I touch PrtScr and I have that image temporarily saved. Now I have to paste it into a program that accepts graphics. Even tho it may have text it is still a graphic. I use IrfanView freeware because it is so easy & fast. I could paste it in other graphics programs too. When the PrtScr image is pasted in Irfan, I crop out what is not wanted, sharpen it if needed, lighten or darken, etc. Then I save it. It cannot be saved as a text file. It is an image. I have to choose jpg or tiff or gif, etc. The most common is jpg. So I give it a filename & choose jpg from the list. Now if I want to import (not paste) it to a document I may do so. My screen shot may have been of folders' names on the C drive. Still a picture (or image). I can save that document, take another PrtScr shot of more folders, paste into graphics program and save, open the document & import the 2nd shot of folders, and so on......................................... PrtScr is doing exactly what the operating system called Windows is telling it to do. It is taking a "picture" of what is showing on your screen when you touch that key. I guess it is a programmer's nightmare to figure an easy way to print a listing of our directories & sub directories. or as they are now called, folders & subfolders, from Windows Explorer. If you become familiar with the command prompt the methods Mikie & Zep describe work well.

I don't know your email program or what type of connectivity you have, network or just a fax modem but maybe try disconnecting from the network or isp before holding down ctrl+delete keys. You may need to turn off your virus program which may be holding it active too, which means it may have a bug. So a virus scan may be in order if a spyware scan doesnt find anything.

Do as zep516 says but I would do it in safe mode. Your Desktop may show up in Safe Mode. 1-Boot to Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key while booting 2-Choose safe mode, Press Enter 3-Select operating system, Press Enter 4-Click Administrator Account 5-Windows is running in Safe Mode, Click YES Click Start - all programs - accessories - system tools - system restore. Restore to an earlier date.

Like Bob I use Firefox but I just tried it in Internet Explorer. Click on Favourites, right click on anything in the list and then click 'Sort by name' in the pop up menu. Done. Actually I used to do it the hard way by holding down the left mouse button and dragging the selected folder up or down till it was where I wanted it.
