Blue Screen info

I am still having BSOD episodes. I have had two BSOD since 6:00 am when I got up and another one when I came in from my morning crossing duty at 8:15 am. I copied the information from the screen onto a piece of paper to list here

1 Driver_IRQL_ NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

then the message about if this is the first time you have seen this message and to disable BIOS caching and other information.

Then it says to boot into safe mode to disable any program you think may be the problem.

2. STOP:0x000000D1 (0x00000001, 0x00000002,0x00000000, 0xBABF50C7

3.DrvFltip-address BABF0C7 base at BABF0000, Date Stamp 458pe4bb

then the virtual memory dump happens

then the complete physical dump is completed

then it says to contact your administrator or tech support group for further assistance

Can any one help me understand all the letters and number combinations and what they refer to?

I'm not sure what you mean by "the screen is small". If you want to resize a window, then in the upper left are three buttons - red (close), yellow (minimize), green (maximize). If you want to adjust the size of the windows there are three little diagonal lines in the lower right corner of a window, just click and drag.

Thanks dogpaddle, beautiful pool! I have some photos to post that I took late this afternoon. It was a cloudy day here so the colors of the stone and glass tile at the water line do not appear as bright as they would if it were sunny. The deck is a very light travertine (installed by the prior owners), which can get very bright in the sun, which is why I was thinking that a richer, darker blue water color would be flattering. Any input as to which color finish anyone thinks would work best would be appreciated! computer Blue screen?

    Q

    Comments (7)
yes lots and lots of things cause a blue screen notice, does not mean it is going to die but does mean you need to correct the problem that is causing it to happen. You need to get all of the exact message that is on the blue screen write it down that is essential because there are dozens of blue screen messages and with out the one on your's no way to know what is causing it. The other option is to go into the administrative tools section of control panel and then the event viewer and open each of the sections including system and look for any red or yellow flagged items double click on the entry and it will give you the info for what is causing the red flag, it will have a code number or event number write that down all of this stuff you have written down can then be googled to find out exactly what it relates to. You have to get it all exactly as it is written down, google it, and there it will tell you if it is some of your software causing it or hardware or if you have a system problem etc. You can go to this forum which is dedicated to helping people with a blue screen problem and they will be happy to help. This behavior may occur if you use a Logitech mouse and the version of the Logitech MouseWare program that is installed on the computer is outdated. This behavior is known to occur with Logitech MouseWare versions 9.10 and 9.24.

    Zep516,
How did you know I have a Logitech USB mouse? I went to the Logitech site and downloaded the most up to date software for the LX3 Optical mouse, that is what I have. So far I haven't had a BSOD but only time will tell if that is the cure.

I didn't know, what I did know is the error and problems associated with this (STOP:0x000000D1) That's pretty much the only information you need on a blue screen error most of the time...

It's called a windows stop error and it means just that Windows has stopped working or bsod...

Most are difficult to resolve and are usually done by trial and error replacing suspected bad parts, or uninstalling suspected software until the problem goes away.

dayliliydayzed you may have some infection on there, where you are showing this 3.DrvFltip
there is a spware that will insert a drvfltip here is the page from Norton/symantec that shows that spyware and in the list of things it installs you can see that listed.
    Spyware.SpySure

You should go do an online virus scan and also download and update and run malwarebytes.
FREE Online Virus Scan this must be run using IE

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

What antivirus program are you running on your pc? what antispware programs are you running and are you updating them and running scans weekly?

Do you by any chance have the ashampoo firewall on your pc? If not which firewall do you have? that item in some cases can be in some firewalls is why I ask.

For what it's worth, I've had BSOD episodes numerous times in the 4 1/2 years I've had this computer.

I 'think' some were resolved by doing a system restore.
Other times I know, the computer was totally emptied, and with the help of Dell extended warranty folks, the OS was reloaded. Cost=$0. Frustration=yes, and it took a good bit of time. The really nice thing though was, once everything was reloaded, everything was just like new all over again.

I did a scan at the site you linked to and it found 2 threats but identified them as a variant of win32.
I have the Ashampoo firewall and I use AVG and Avast as antivirus I run Spybot, Search and Destroy, A2squared.
I run each program at least once a week, if not more.
Antivirus is up to date as well as all the other programs.
It may not be any thing but nothing shows on any of the scans as being a virus when AVG scans or when Avast scans.
In a few weeks I will be buying a new hard drive to replace the one my son took out for my husbands computer he built for his dad. So then I will install Windows on that drive and reformat this drive.

Only 1 Anti Virus should be running it's ok to have 2 Anti Virus but only 1 in resident mode, if both Anti virus were running and they both tried to scan the same file a crash could occur running 2 anti virus does not add additional protection.

I have a feeling you already know this...

ok good if you have ashampoo that is where that file is coming from then and that is likely what is causing your BSOD, if you continue to have them I would uninstall the ashampoo firewall then reinstall it and see if that helps. Your scan looks great! Glad to see that file is a legit one and is very likely your firewall it is seeing with that DrvFltip, some malware will copy the name of legit files so we always want to make sure in those cases.

I have seen many of the same error you are having and most that showed that particular file in the error were caused by the ashampoo firewall.
And of course as zep said only one AV program running full time resident, one can be on demand only.

I like all the recommendations here and am quite confident the issue will be resolved. If however your system continues to BSOD on a regular basis, perhaps daily, I would recommend you boot up in Safe Mode and let the system stand. Unfortunately you won't be able to use it on line as the AV and firewall will be disabled. If BSODs continue attention will have to be directed to the O/S. If it ceases you are then confident that it is more than likely an application conflict.

There is another way to trouble shoot a blue screen that gets a little bit involved this would be for the more difficult ones.

What caused my blue screen error.

"Firstly, when your system crashes, by default (blue screen) it saves a file to your hard drive with quite a bit of information. Those files are called Dump Files and they are located in the C:\windows\minidump folder. The files are created using either of these two naming conventions:

    1. Minixxxxxx-0x.dmp where xxxxxx is the date the system cashed and -0x corresponds to the number of times the system crashed that day. The higher the -0x number the more recent the crash.

    2. Dumpxxxxxx-0x.dmp where xxxxxx is the date the system cashed and -0x corresponds to the number of times the system crashed that day. The higher the -0x number the more recent the crash.

Let's start decrypting the info found in the dump file.

First, we need to download and install the Microsoft Debugging Tools from here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx

After installing we open the Debugging Tools by going to the Start menu > Programs > Debugging Tools for Windows > windbg . When the Debugging Tools for Windows program opens click on File then Symbol file path. Put this in the text box: SRV*c:\websymbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

Now click the OK button. Now we open the dump file by clicking File then Open Crash Dump. We browse to the C:\windows\minidump folder and choose the dump file we would like to look at. When it's done loading you'll see the words "BUG CHECK ANALYSIS" in an * box.

In the text box below (to the right of kd>) type in !analyze -v to get a word-for-word output of the error. Once it is completed look for the section the text right after "BUG CHECK ANALYSIS". There you will have some words with underscores in between each word. Sort of like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL. That will help you find a solution to your problem. Also, scroll to the section IMAGE NAME: . The words after that will tell you what file caused the error."

    Zep,
    I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Debugging tools and tried to follow your instructions. I got as far as this: "Put this in the text box: SRV*c:\websymbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols";
after I did that step it opened up a window to check for the Crash dump. I then went to C/windows/minidump and opened the file but I did not have a minidump file to open.
I have a feeling this is somehow related to something my son did recently while he was here. He opened up the case and removed my large hard drive to use in the build for his dad. So I found a 300 GB hard drive at Walmart last night for under 100.00. I will wait till the next weekend(grandson will be gone to his dad's house) to install it. When I do that I will disconnect this drive and use the large drive as the C drive. I will then install motherboard disc and start over from scratch.I hope that will cure the problem then.

Not sure where the minidump file is then??????

So you are still getting this stop error (STOP:0x000000D1)?

Oh boy, someone was in side the computer now we need to take (more things into consideration) that is the possibility of a loose connection somewhere or the ram if precautions were not taken and even if they were.

And your plan is to remove the existing drive, install the new 300GB Drive, and reinstall the operating system with your retail version of windows xp and your windows key?

Why not down load service pack2 onto a cd so you have it.

And what about your drivers get those together especially your network adapter for internet connection & find out the name of your display driver Graphics and or video card. You can do all that in Device Manager, I'd put the networker adapter driver onto a cd or flash drive so you have it.

What is the make and model of your computer?

You know the next step would have been to run tests on the hard drive from the (hard drive manufactures site), then to dowmload memtest and do a memory test. Does your son have any new ram you could put in, or you could download memtest google it....just to make sure this is not some ram problem.

Memtest takes along time to run 24 hrs sometimes.. And I think it has to be downloaded onto a cd or floppy and run from those, I'd have to check, it's a pain tell you the truth I'd replace it and move on, time is money too....

    Zep,
Memtest wouldn't run. It said to use multiple copies of it I think because of the amount of Ram I have 2 GB.
Son is not near enough to borrow ram from to test. I am located in middle of FL , son is down in Key West, is a 5-6 hour drive to drive it.

The computer is one my son and I built at Christmas last year.
It is all different pieces. No brand names. Motherboard is EliteGroup GeForce 6100PM-M2, Sound is Diamond sound card, Video Card is a EVGA Processor is a AMD 2 Dual Core.
Network adapter is integrated into the motherboard.
I can download the SP2 and burn it to a CD but all the other drivers are on the CD's that I used to install them when this computer was built.
I can install the new hard drive this coming weekend and install every thing again and start fresh with everything at a beginning restore point. Then if the BSOD keeps happening I can restore back to the default restore point.

one thing I would try before doing anything else is open your case, ground yourself of course and have the power unplugged, then remove each of your memory sticks and blow out the slots then re-seat the memory sticks, you might also try swapping them from the slot it was in to the other, ram can get tiny particles of dust in the slot and cause a lot of BSOD and weird stuff happening, so that is always a good place to start, then reboot and run it for a while and see if it helped.

    Raven,
I will try that when I get a chance to do it. This weekend my grandson goes to his dads and I have somewhere to go on Sat so it will be Sunday before I can get it done.

Looks like you have everything. Be nice to try resolve the blue screen before making changes. I just wanted to make sure it was not a Dell or brand name....

On that Logitech mouse program it was important that you removed all the Logitech software, THEN do the update this could have been easily overlooked, After removing it if you have not I would at that point run ccleaner then install the mouse update

Just to add to the ram thing if you are using more the 1 stick take them all out and only use 1 stick at a time to see if problem goes away changing sticks as you go...

Memtest should have ran it's a Linux based program for windows.

kb925922----This patch was issued from Microsoft for this error I do not think it pertains to you so do not install, you can Google(kb925922) and read it something to do with network didn't read it all I would not worry about that yet..

    Zep ,
I googled the the number of the patch and it had the message of my BSOD I have had happening. Microsoft had a hotpatch fix for it so I downloaded the patch and installed it. I will see if that helps and post my results here.

Well it has been several hours since I installed the hotfix from the kb925922 article. I have not a BSOD since I installed it but will not know for sure until 24 hours have gone by. I had one BSOD today before installing it so today will not count. The 24 hours starts at Midnight tonight.

It has been 10 hours with out a BSOD so it looks like the hotfix patch worked. If it goes till midnight tonight with out a blue screen , I will know that it was successful.

No BSOD all day today! Usually it would have a couple of BSOD a day. But after installing the hotfix patch yesterday, it seems to have fixed the problem.
