Is 7 Grains considered hard? Dishwasher recommendations needed.
Comments (2)A built-in water softener is unnecessary for 0-3 grains and works well between 4-12 grains per gallon. Rarely is water hardness stable over years so 7 grains(moderately hard water that can get a little harder or softer) is right in the ballpark for a dishwasher with built-in water softener that is expected to last several years. I would recommend the same dishwashers as last time but you don't need STPP for the severely hard water just the salt in the softener. Comments (31)you’re either referring to the law (in Washington State, anyway) regarding rental properties, or you live in some place that has uber nanny legislators. And seriously? YOU don’t think YOU are smart enough to know what temperature YOU want YOUR hot water in your home? Any who, I don’t want the dishwasher to turn the electrical heating element on. Electricity (unless your using magnetic induction) is an inefficient way to heat water. It is better for my house to use hot water from my tankless HWH. I have a tankless HWH that will produce 190° hot water if I set it correctly. I have a dedicated line from the manifold that natal led between the heater and the Case Acme temperature regulator. I send 160° water to my dishwasher, and washing machine. (I also have a dedicated line that supplies 160° to a separate faucet on my sink that takes the place of the under sink contraption that crapped out a while back. (120° is the legal limit? Don’t tell InSinkerator. I doubt those gadgets they make can even go down to 120°.) I would use 180° water but I am afraid the water temperature alone might melt some plastic ware and also damage some synthetic fabrics. Here’s a thought, when it comes to how YOU choose to live in YOUR house, man up, and grow a pair....See Moreneed which well water tests to buy to filter well water
Comments (2)The tests you want are: 1. pH 2. TDS 3. iron (more on this below) 4. bacteria 5. sulfates 6. Nitrates 7. Hardness 8. Manganese 9. turbidity anything else that tends to be a problem in your area - a local lab will know what these items are. A little more about iron: When you run water from the tap, does it have noticeable color, odor or particulates? If so, you may have ferric (particulate) iron. Is the water clear as it comes from the tap? If you fill a glass and let it sit for a few hours, does it develop color or particulates? If so, you may have ferrous (clear-water, dissolved) iron. Look on your state's website and search for water labs. There should be a number of certified labs available. A local lab is your best option because they will know if there are any issues in your area that you need to be aware of, and the testing will happen more quickly which will vastly improve ferrous iron and volatiles (if applicable) accuracy....See MoreHelp needed sizing water softening and filtering system for well water
Comments (0)GardenWeb Community, I need your assistance. I am needing to size a water softening and whole house filtering system for my home and there are many different approaches I have found on the web with different values, peak vs. average flow rates, etc. Based on the feedback I have read thus far from Justalurker and aliceinwonderland_id on this site I am leaning towards a Fleck softening system but not sure which one. Also looking for ideas on a whole home filtering system based on the below test results. We live in Anchorage, Alaska and we just bought a 6000 sqft., 3 bed 3.5 bath house with 3 people living in it (wife, 2.5 yr old daughter, and myself). All appliances are high efficiency Frigidaire Professional series, Triangle Tube Prestige Water heater, etc. A recent water test was performed by a local sales company and the basic results are as follows: TDS: 125 ppm Hardness: 10 gpg pH 7.0 Total Alkalinity 120 ppm Total Iron 0.1 ppm Total Manganese 0.2 ppm Coliform: Neg colonies/100mL Nitrate: 5.09 mg/L Arsenic: ND ug/L Let me know if any additional information is needed in order to provide any recommendations. Any recommendations are welcomed and I genuinely appreciate the assistance in advance. Regards, Derek...See Moresynergi
