THANK YOU for a wonderful, informative video. It is a great look at the Advantium! Your video is a nifty addition to the the Great Potato Race video demonstrations.

I noticed that your potatoes weighed just over 7 ounces each, yet you selected Large (10 - 12 oz ea) size rather than Medium (7 - 9 oz ea). Since you also manually entered a little more time, was the size choice intentional as well? Please tell us how accurate the oven is with it's pre-programming.

Also, what's your favorite food to cook in your Advantium?

I've noticed that my 240v recipes undercook most of the time so i usually add a few minutes to whatever is cooking. I also like that it remembers the cooking setting and you can easily add time after its done cooking. We make a lot of potatoes in our advantium. It makes good quesadillas, grilled chicken strips, hot sandwiches.

Yes athomesewing, like sophie123 my first baked potatoes (Huge) were still hard after the standard time, so I learned to use the large setting, and add a minute or two depending on how large the potatoes are, instead of adding time after checking for doneness at the end. Or maybe GE has only ever seen mini potatoes.

The menu settings might be purposely biased towards under cooking, since it is easy to add more time, and you can't undo overcooked food. At the end of the cycle, you have a 10 minute window when you can press the selector knob to resume cooking at the same settings (standard is 10% of the original cooking time added), then of course you can spin the dial to adjust the remaining cooking time whenever cooking is in process. This is a great feature.

The other great feature is the ability to add or subtract microwave, convection, or upper/lower adjusting the power settings while the food is cooking, or after checking doneness. When I'm winging it, I like to manipulate the controls to balance the doneness of the interior versus the exterior of the food.

I want to note a possible error in the video. According to the manual, the automatic Optimization adjusts the cooking time after sensing the voltage provided to the oven. It doesn't mention any other reason for the Optimization.

I'm still learning all the Advantium features. When I started using it a few months ago, the memory came to me of the early sixties cartoon show, The Jetsons. I remember a scene where they pushed a button on the wall, and a variety of cooked food just popped out. I think the Advantium is the closest I've seen to that vision becoming reality. Haha

Not sure if I have a favorite food to cook, but I do enjoy convection baking Jiffy muffins on the spur of the moment.

So far I have avoided cooking anything real messy in the Advantium. As you can see in the video, it's still pretty clean. I suppose it won't stay that way forever.

I checked the Speed Cook Menu for a whole 3-4 lb chicken, and it estimated 25 minutes.

I did do a Lemon Chicken Breast recipe a few days ago, from the Advantium 240 Cookbook that came with the oven. Used a 1 quart Corning Ware dish on the metal tray.

While I'm thinking of it, the Advantium also came with the Glass microwave tray, plus three enameled metal trays, one of which is ridged for grilling. Also a metal rack for two level cooking.

There's one thing I'm really disappointed is not in this video: butter and sour cream. Those are some nice looking spuds!!

Can you roast a chicken covered in one of those plastic bags for keeping in the heat/steam/juice while baking, or would that not work under the bright halogen oven light? Seems like a way to keep the oven cleaner...

Chicken in a bag, not a bad idea! The halogen upper element is entirely optional, its pupose is for browning assistence.

If I were to do the chicken in a bag, I would probably try 100% convection, plus 60-70% microwave for speed, and leave the upper halgen, and lower ceramic (tray) heater at 0%.

Wouldn't doing chicken in a bag do away with crispy skin?

That was great, wpdoit! It looks like you have the low time for 2 spuds soundly baked, my man -- at least until Gary or I or somebody else with a speed oven can figure out how to school you! Nicely done! That Advantium is impressive looking.

I was going to ask how you kept it so clean :) How do you clean it? Can you use the lemon juice in water for 5-10 minutes and wipe up the steam? Or a magic eraser? That is really my lingering concern - how to keep it clean on the inside!

My potatoes turned out pretty nice. I think I could increase the microwave power setting, and decrease the overall cooking time by a minute or so, but that would likely reduce the crispness of the potato skin slightly. I don't think it's worth compromising the result though.

Reminds me, I need to save those settings as "Perfect Baked Potato" in the Advantium's Favorite Recipe memory.

I think it's great that folks have choices.

There are some posts on another thread, kinda ("Hinting") that we are -- ("paraphrasing")-- somewhat snobby or elite, for wanting these type of appliances.

What's wrong with saving a little time along with saving money on your energy bills, why cook a tater for an hour when you can do it in 12 to 15 mins.

I haven't babied the interior of my Advantium, and was fighting with some hard to remove spots on the rear wall. I got a cheap steam cleaner, and saw a marked improvement after the first try. I'm hoping for total recovery. :)

I'm glad to see your results, btw. We're not big on potatoes, but seeing how well you've mastered the speed cooking, I'm inspired to work harder at it.

Just moved to a home with this cook oven.
Am not finding the instruction manual all that helpful.

This thread addresses your toast question.

The Advantium uses Quartz Halogen bulbs for radiant heating and they may not perform as well as a standard resistance element for toasting breads. The thread linked above mentions a setting to try if you have the 240V model, but you might be SOL if it's a 120V device.

I've found the quickest and easiest for me is placing bread on the metal tray, and with custom menu, use the top and bottom heating elements at full power. Flip the bread over after a minute or two, and continue cooking for maybe another minute.

I did some garlic bread yesterday using the speedcook menu for cheese bread. Maybe 2 1/2 - 3 minutes, without flipping. Keep your eye on things, the bottom heater (tray) will usually cook faster than the top.

But normally when I want toast, I get my cheap toaster out of the cabinet.
