I've upgraded to IE8 & still no video viewing possible

Thanks, all, for your suggestions, on my "it was working yesterday & now it's not" post. I now have IE8 and still no video YT viewing possible. When the YT home page comes up, the top half shows pictures, the bottom half shows empty squares with a + in the lower left corner. But when you click on any of those, I still get "You must have Java turned off or need to get the latest Adobe Flash Player". I have the latest Flash player. Anything I can try next? GRRRRRRR!!!!!

Just a thought after reading both posts. Before installing the Flash player did you exit the browser completely before installing? Also is Scripting enabled on your computer?

Bob, you know, I can't remember if I closed the browser before installing the shockwave. Also, how do I know if I have scripting enabled. Thanks, Bob.

camp, I didn't realize it either until researching online and on gardenweb. "What are these cabbage lopers of which you speak?" (what the heck is a loper?) ... OHHHHHH, those gross lil green caterpillars I keep seeing. Gotcha! This has been fun to read everyone's input. There are too many gems to point them out individually, but I've learned that not only are garden bloggers really nice and helpful (per thyme2garden) but they are pretty funny, too! It's too bad I try to share the humor with my non-gardening friends and family ... (um, ok, everyone not on here!) and they give me the blank "I don't get it," stare. Such is life. I highly recommend the archived "so you want to grow a gardenia" thread... I read that a few months ago and was CRYING it was so funny. (I didn't even know what a gardenia WAS until that thread.) And it has given me the courage to venture into growing flowers this coming year ... once I make the lasagna beds this fall for spring ... and build a few more trellises ... and flip my compost ... and ask the restaurant down the street for coffee grounds ... and.. and.. and.. :P Oh, btw. The tomatoes are starting (in case anyone was troubled by my plethora of non-ripening tomatoes.) ... The gardening gods like me (at the moment ;) ). Thanks again everyone for sharing - Veronica

Carol-very good use of space for different activities. We aren't finishing our basement right away but I am bookmarking his thread for later. Our 'family room' down there is 17x33 I think. Definitely room for multi-purposing. IKEA hack - ugh no. I do not have near the time necessary to plan and carry out that undertaking. :(. We ended up buying 2 cabinets vanity height and depth for $1,000 bucks. The rest we are winging. There have been strong disagreements about the built ins so we will see what we end up with. They will be more basic than my inspiration for sure. At this point I am very thankful for my arches. If that is what I end up with then I am happy. Have you seen Dutty's kitchen IKEA hack? Simply amazing! Your plan looks great! LL is an awesome visualizer. :)

I just added Firefox for the first time this past weekend; it's version 3.5.3 which I believe is the latest. At Adobe, I installed/reinstalled Flash Version 10.0.32.18. It is for Windows, Firefox, Safari and Opera. I also installed the Flash Player 10 PlugIn 10.0.32.18 which is for Firefox. I tested at the Adobe site and they report Flash 10.0.32.18 was successfully installed. I also checked C:\Windows/system32/Macromed/Flash and found Flash10c.ocx and NPSWF32.dll there. During the time that I was still trying to get IE7 to work, I followed some directons using Start, Run and then entering each of the following separately, followed by clicking OK. They were regsvr32 mshtml.dll regsvr32 shdocvw.dll regsvr32 browseui.dll regsvr32 msjava.dll Success was reported with the 1st three, but on the last the message was: LoadLibrary ("msjava.dll") failed. The specified module could not be found. I googled it and one site said it won't be found because MS's Java has been replaced by Sun's version. Another site listed programs it's known to affect - Macromedia Flash was on the list. Since I recognized the work Java, I reinstalled that program just in case it might solve the video problem - it didn't. Since this all began somewhere in the process of updating to IE7 (which I then uninstalled) I did reinstall IE7 hoping for a magic solution - it didn't happen. I do plant to continue with FF, however. Is there a program (or maybe it's a tool that's already on my computer) that would show what's happening behind the scenes when the video is "loading"? I'm not an expert so probably can't help but... I think you have enough speed you shouldn't even need to let it buffer, but know how to do so, so it's probably not Internet speed. Your system seems fine specification-wise. To me anyway. I don't think or know much about video cards but I wouldn't think it would be the physical card, but I don't really know. My wild guess would be the driver. :) This is what mine shows when I go to "System settings"--->"Additional Drivers": If it were me, I'd try a different driver if there's any listed there. Maybe you already have? Other than that, I don't have a clue. I'm running 12.04 and youtube's and other videos play fine for me. If someone else here doesn't have the answer, there's always the Ubuntu forum. Just a thought. I recently had a video viewing problem but despite installing and uninstalling Flash multiple times my problem continued. Finally I discovered that though I uninstalled Flash, there were still files left on my computer.

I would suggest you uninstall Flash using Adobe's removal tool following their directions:

Reboot.

Do a Search (Start/Search/All Files and Folders) entering "flash" (without the quotes) in the "All or part of the file name" box.

If files are found, go to the file location(s) and manually delete them.

Reboot.

Repeat the search on "flash" again to be sure the only flash files found are now in your recycle bin.

When your search comes up clean, then reinstall Flash.

It took me 2 1/2 days of frustration before I found that the uninstall was incomplete and Flash file remnants were causing my problem.

Hopefully the above will solve your problem as well.

Do you in fact have Java enabled? In IE8, click on Tools>Internet Options. Open the Advanced tab and scroll down to "Use JRE 1.6.0_15" (that's the latest update of Java). Make sure this is checked.

wait you are talking originally about flash and adobe but then you say something about installing the shockwave, those are 3 different programs.
There is Java
There is adobe player
There is shockwave.

you need to make sure you are getting the proper one. If you need java getting shockwave will not help you.
You probably want all 3 of them, and you will want them for each of your browsers you use.

To update your Java go to control panel then to the java icon there it looks like a coffee cup and hit the update button and follow the prompts.
For adobe go to adobe player on your pc and select the update option and follow the prompts to update your player.
For shockwave go to the download page for it and select the proper one for your operating system and browsers.
Install Adobe Shockwave Player
Install Adobe Flash Player
BE SURE to uncheck any added components or options like the McAfee scan on the site listed above and in each download you do be sure you uncheck any checked options for added toolbars or other options you only want the actual player you went there for.

In the steps I outlined in my message of 10/9/2009 at 10:36 AM, I said to search for "flash" files. That is a whoops! Please search for "adobe" and manually delete any files found unless it is obvious they are used by another program (I found an AdobeHookDLL.dll which was in a Program File for Logitech; I did not delete it). - June
