If Firefox becoming impossible, or is it just me?

In recent versions (updates) of Firefox, now 7.0.1, Firefox frequently prevents a selected web site from transferring to a another web address (forget the exact message)... Firefox does allow me to click on "allow". I have used Firefox "options" and "security" to put the subject website in the "exceptions" list, but this does not stop Firefox form blocking the transfer.

Any fixes?

I would make a guess that one or more of your add-ons/plugins is not fully compatible with the new version and is causing a conflict. You could try disabling them & see if the problem goes away. I haven't experienced the problem you describe. For the most part, I stay away from FF add-ons as I think they cause more trouble than they are worth.

If it weren't for the add-ons FF would be just another browser, and I wonder if Mozilla has lost sight of that.

As I stated some time ago, this high-speed release of "upgraded" versions may be more of a negative than a positive. I just get this inkling if Mozilla does not reign in this release process only bad can happen.

All this and Firefox 8.0 Beta 2 was released October 7, 2011.

Purpleinopp, Good point. I don't mine ads but an incident got to me recently. I was shopping for something on Amazon recently, let's say a saw. Two days later I get an email from some site I never heard of before. It said, " We noticed that you were looking at saws on Amazon recently. Why don't you try our site." That was it! I retired from the computer security industry and have seen everything, but that freaked me. I got the tracking blocker software through the Microsoft site; So I felt OK with it. When I installed it I noticed the huge number of crazy, flashing ads on Yahoo came to a halt. They were doing extreme tracking. Now I get normal, nice ads which I do occasionally read, if interested. The crazy ads are like the used car salesman that comes on the TV and hollers. Does he think he is helping his cause? Most of us reject unwanted noise. You can go to Microsoft and search "tracking blockers" or Abine. Incidentally in Europe the gov is passing laws to block trackers. Not here. This post was edited by bugbite on Thu, Mar 7, 13 at 10:08

I had to open a minimum of 12 tabs before that little x disappeared. If that's a problem for you, why have so many tabs open? Still, you can click on any tab you want to close and the little x will appear, or you can right-click a tab and close it. The other option would be to open some of your tabs in a new Firefox window instead of cramming all your open tabs onto one window. It's not an add-on, it's a feature. It is usually a more rewarding experience to find out what Firefox is capable of instead of wondering why it doesn't work the way you think it should.

Yeah, sorry, I'm not expert enough to explain the difference, just pointing out that there is a difference. My banking sites work fine without Java. I wasn't implying your problem is Javascript, just that it's not Java. Javascript is not something you manually update, it's built into the browser and updates when you update the browser. Personally, I wouldn't rush to reinstall Windows if all the problems are in Firefox. First, I'd try the "reset" that you tried. If that didn't work, I'd uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. If that didn't work, I'd do it again but make sure it didn't leave anything behind. Make sure it removed my old Firefox profile, maybe even run CCleaner's registry cleaner to make sure all Firefox registry entries were removed. Then if after all that it still didn't work right... I'd consider reinstalling Windows. I'm not an expert though so I'm saying that's what you should do, just telling you what I'd do. BTW, every time I've ever reinstalled Windows, I dreaded it but ended up glad I did. Machine ran snappy new again. Sorry I can't help more.

Selling a house is almost impossible these days! Any good advice?

I sold my house yesterday and put an offer on a house about two weeks ago so I see selling and buying from two perspectives. First, as a seller, you don't want to spend money for a house you are leaving. But, if you would rearrange your furniture a bit, take down the wall paper, also add a few decorative accessories-not a bunch of little things, but a few well placed bigger things with real impact. Also, I like you drapes, but modern buyers would consider that a bit dated. Everything now a days is sheer, light open etc. I got sheer material from Walmart and made simple drapes-$1.00 a yard. They look great-like silk. If you don't sew, you can use glue. Add a few flowers to your yard. A buyer wants to just move in these days. As a buyer, I was looking for a clean house, I didn't want to take on a bunch of projects. I wanted move in ready. I am not your normal buyer as I am willing to replace carpeting, paint etc. My new family room has hideous wood paneling, but I still bought it. The price was right. In a more expensive house I would have requested that the sellers provide a bit of money for this. I don't know if you are pricing aggressively or trying to get top dollar that makes a difference too. Watch designed to sell, they have great tips. I don't mean the crazy stuff-ripping out bathrooms, but furniture arrangement, accessories etc.

Maybe FF is just another browser without add-ons. If that is true, I'm okay with it because FF runs so well. So does TBird. I don't want/need add-ons for that either.

When I open "extensions" - it clearly states that Java Console is incompatible with FF 7.0.1. I have no problems running in safe mode. I do intend to download FF 6 but busy weekend and I want time when I do it.

I will appreciate help on managing "add ons" anyone can give. I try to reject them when the update process for FF asks. I may have missed a few, this problem has been with me for at least the last two or more releases.

I haven't tried "help" for managing add ons, my recollection is "help" takes me to the Mozilla web site rather that offering the good old Microsoft on-board help library.

First thing Jerry would be to configure your FF to manual updating. Tools>Options>Advanced>Update tab.>I recommend unchecking all three entries>OK.

Now all your updating will be manual, in your control, and up to you to do.

The only problem I have had is my "red cats/green flavor theme add on kept changing to a terrible black tool bar that was unreadable. I kept messing with it and it seems to be staying now. I have my status bar on and I had trouble getting to one site and Java script was setting in it. Eventually it got in. I don't usually have a problem of any kind with FF. Maybe they are rushing things. Those are small problems and I am sticking with the latest version.

jerry I think what you were trying to say is when it says a site is re-directing you that firefox is notifying you, that is a security feature because re-directing can be a very bad thing in some cases it can be sending you to a site you definitely would not want to go to, many of the drive by infections happen that way. There is an option in firefox to allow the re-direct if it is a legit one. That is not caused by an addd-on that is part of firefox.

Hum, that may be, I think I have avoided add-ons in the past. As I recall, not the best of memories here, FF sometimes gives me a warning and offers me a chance to "allow". When I click on "allow" it lets the new information flow. But, I think sometimes it gives me the warning and lets the data flow, then maybe not... I'll watch in the future.

This never happens when I come to gardenweb forums.
