I can second that.............HP has always treated me well, but most techs have including Compaq and Sony. Most are just nice people doing their job the best they can. I think if a person goes to a tech with a chip on their shoulder or mad, they may have a problem. In recent years I have stuck with Hp, I am very comfortable with it. It has never let me down on the rare occasion when I need help.

Hello again nice people, I have a question. Since Zep has led me through so many steps and has helped me clean up some of the junk on my computer my question is this. What will the results be if I can find no way to get Java downloaded? Is it absolutely necessary that Java be on the computer for things to work right. I see no results from NOT having it, other than not being to play some games, I play most any game I want without any trouble, most of them very graphic. I still need to delete the Firefox Beta version and keep the right version, but I've got to straightened out the shortcut Icons on my desktop, they're both intertwined. Other than that I don't seem to be having any problems. I don't know if there is something else on the Hijack list that needs to be addressed, Zep didn't say so I assume that there is not. I did get the problem with Incredimail straightened out. That also was a register error. After today I am headed for hopefully a wonderful trip to Yellowstone National Park. I will check on this thread as soon as I get back to see what you think about leaving well enough alone. Thanks again for your time and sharing your knowledge.

I am happily excited about getting my old PC back downstairs here where I am set up in my kitchen and do some trouble-shooting approaches to try and get my computer up and running ! I never in 5 years had one second of a problem with the HP brand , so that is what I bought this time ! My first 1-2 years of learning computer navigations, I started each subject line here in this forum with: "How Do I "save", "find"" get this on my search'" or fill in the blank, etc. ?The first time I ever suggested a possible fix to a query,and I was on the "helping" end of the line, was such a really cool feeling ! Yea ! I was thinking this evening about why my kids answer to my PC crash was "Throw it out. There is no fix for this...you have lost everything and it cannot be retrieved" is they are from the generation who easily disposes of everything! Their lives are so rushed ( THEY scheduled it that way) and they think anything that would require some dedicated time, is impossible. Their kids are rushed around from one sport to the next ( even some 2 or 3 per day !), they eat on the run, sentences are never finished and they plunge into deep sleep at the end of their day, and 6 hours later get up and do it all over again! I will keep you posted and will be trying the UBUNTU steps . I did have a faint beep on the old PC and mentioned that as a possible signal for Diagnosis and heads were shaken "no, it absolutely does not having anything to do with this" I mentioned the anology of my furnace having different sequences of beeps to help determine what part of the furnace system is having a problem....Ahhh, well. The email might not be the best option, depending on your connection. If you reduce the file size of the picture, you reduce the quality of the image. They have really inexpensive USB drives out now. I bought a 1GB drive for $14. You just drag your pictures over until it is full, then drag them into your MyPictures folder on your new computer. It is reusable - just delete them off after you have them transfered and do it again until you are finished. A CD will hold less than a 1GB USB drive. Large USB drives are available. Hopefully you don't have thousands of pictures on your computer - I have 10's of thousands! Make sure you learn how to use your burner and back up your photos soon - hard drives fail, no matter how new the machine - you are on borrowed time if you do not backup your pictures, and it only takes a few minutes.
