taken all suggestions, still no viewing YT

Hi, all, and thank you very much for your time and suggestions. I was up until 2 am last eve removing the Adobe flash player that was installed and installing Adobe Flash 10.0.18.32 (hope that's the sequence). I also installed the latest shockwave player and Adobe Reader (don't know if I need those to view YT). I also went to Java.com and installed their latest version and also did the little test you can do to see if it's working. According to their site, it is. But why doesn't the Java applet show up in the toolbar? Still not able to view any YT videos, although, and this is really strange, I was away from the computer for a couple of hours, when I came back and tried again, the YT video I clicked on actually played, but only that one time, none would play after that. Don't know why.....I'm stumped. Oh, I've also restarted the computer after each install. Oh, technology.....

You haven't said but is the problem Only with youtube videos or is it with others?

Forgot to add, I can view other videos from other sites, just not on YouTube.

Thanks for the comments; Yep ,Severn, dreaming is important; it makes us more creative,I think Bax,those tools are indispensable over here (see next post) Funny thing about the pry-bar : I found it under a hedge in an old lady's front yard in London. It was left there by council workers who ripped-out her garden railings back in 1940 in an effort to reclaim steel for the war-effort !!! wait you are talking originally about flash and adobe but then you say something about installing the shockwave, those are 3 different programs. There is Java There is adobe player There is shockwave. you need to make sure you are getting the proper one. If you need java getting shockwave will not help you. You probably want all 3 of them, and you will want them for each of your browsers you use. To update your Java go to control panel then to the java icon there it looks like a coffee cup and hit the update button and follow the prompts. For adobe go to adobe player on your pc and select the update option and follow the prompts to update your player. For shockwave go to the download page for it and select the proper one for your operating system and browsers. Install Adobe Shockwave Player Install Adobe Flash Player BE SURE to uncheck any added components or options like the McAfee scan on the site listed above and in each download you do be sure you uncheck any checked options for added toolbars or other options you only want the actual player you went there for. This is an old thread but I guess I will reply to it. I'm having the same issue with my male ragdoll cat, 11yrs old. All of a sudden he stopped eating and drinking but also kept licking his lips occasionally. I also noticed him being sick quite a bit (yellow liquid with froth) He usually loves lic e lix treats which is yogurt consistency and usually licks it up within seconds but would not have that either. Took him to the vet yesterday, I said I thought it might be a hairball stuck or something but the Nurse felt around the tummy slowly going along and said she can't feel a blockage. Temperature was ok and told me might have picked up a bug although he never gets outside. She gave him an injection and told me if he didn't eat or drink by the morning then to ring up may need bloods doing. Next morning (today) still not eaten or drank water so they told me to bring him in for blood tests. They phoned me about an hour ago saying the tests were pretty boring really, they all came back ok. He has been on a drip for today and told me he can go home today with the canula in his leg and if he eats nothing today again he goes back on drip for another day tomorrow. So this is where I am at with my cat right now, have to pick him up in an hour. I am hoping he eats and he won't have to go back in to stay tomorrow. I just thought I'd write this because others seem to have the same issues. It doesn't help you feel better though when you search the web thinking it could be the worst.

I have a few thoughts.

Did you use the Adobe Flash player remover? (Link Below)
You MUST use their tool (according to them) because of fragments left behind using other methods. It also un-installs the activeX control that goes with the flash player. (I suspect that this may be part of your problem)

The other problem that you may have is one known as a browser install frag.

You can download the flash player from adobe but .. You Cannot have an active browser open when you install the player. You Must exit any browser that you have open, Not just close the window.

Try this and let us know.

Found a Bunch of folks who were having the same problem (exactly) as you are having.

Apparently the following instructions cleared up the problem for almost everyone.

I took the liberty of copying and pasting what I found below.

I can't guarantee that it will work for you but it's worth a try. (These were ALL Youtube users)

Go To:

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19166&sl... The page title is "Troubleshoot Adobe Flash Player Installation for Windows"

click on #3, Troubleshoot Adobe Flash Player for Internet Explorer.

Scroll down to just above question #4 and find the bold print that reads:
"If the activeX control for Flash Player fails to install, download the executable installer"

Click on download, save to desktop, then install.
Close all applications before running installer

Confirm Flash by going to:
www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Can you see me smiling all the way from Ohio? IT WORKED!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Used Adobes uninstaller to remove the flash player, brought up the installer page for the new player, minimized it, exited browser, brought installer page back up, installed. Turned off computer, turned back on, and IT WORKS!!!! YAY!!!! Thank you all!!!!! Hope I did all that right, wasn't sure how to install something without an open browser.

Wanted to add that I can't figure out why YT vids stopped playing at all, as I changed no settings, etc. Going to keep the instructions you provided in case of further trouble. At any rate, many, many thanks.

Recently downloaded YouTubes wouldn't play for me either. I discovered what was different by downloading one I had saved back in early summer. The new download was in .mp4 format and the old one was .flv --- same video, different format.

Got help here :-)

Sure glad it was resolved to your satisfaction.

It was becoming difficult jumping around in multiple, three I think, threads trying to keep up with the past posts and the goings on. Perhaps next time you might consider a continuous thread. It would be more efficient for members to help and learn. When the thread jumps to the top of the roster of questions members automatically know there is new information on the thread.
