Please don't type in all caps. Its considered yelling. I was looking at these two models too. I'm leaning away from the KitchenAid (assuming you are looking at the new Architect II models) because they are much lower in power (watts) in each of the modes (bake, broil, convection). For the price difference, the Monogram seems to me a better choice.

I have a KA double convection wall oven KEBS208. I was trying to hold off on self-cleaning it because of the problems I read about but I finally broke down and cleaned it last night. It looks so nice again with that pretty blue color (although the racks remain spattered)and I just used the oven this afternoon on 2 different settings and different temps. It worked fine - what a relief. Actually my friend with the same oven cleaned hers first with no problem so that's the reason I decided to clean mine. I think you should feel safe getting the KA - no need to worry about the self cleaning problem, although if you get it make sure to clean it within the warranty period! I love my KA oven, we use it often for pizzas at 500 degrees and use it at regular temps also. I pretty much only use the convection oven feature (used regular bake this afternoon for cheesecake, not convection) and broil. I'm not picky when it comes to an oven but I really like this one. Thanks for the reply. Hubby agrees that it needs to burn the new stuff off. I am just used to my other oven. It did not seem to take as long to preheat. Hoping mine works as well as yours, and since I only made frozen pizza that does not qualify :)

Nothing for sure. Fault codes are just a method of monitoring and labeling a bad voltage within a certain series of checkpoints. The code might refer to door lock which might indicate opening and closing the door at higher temps causes either a real problem with some wire or switch acting up and/or the heat released confusing the system into thinking there is a safety problem and shutting down.
