Wonderful Package from Karen

I received my fabulous package from Karen, but you are going to have to wait for pictures because my DH's relatives are coming in sometime today and I'm not sure when and I have a TAD bit of cleaning up to do -- just wanted to let you know I received it, and will post the photos and description asap!

Everyone, Blueiris has e-mailed me to let me know she has received her package. One of the gifts I sent her was broken ;-( so we are looking into replacing it.

DD, I got the jar at Michaels as they had the perfect size with lid. And picked up wood hearts and stars, and some pretty buttons there too. It was fun to put these together. Besides the Friendship Jar, there is another similar one I recently saw. Its called a Gift Survival Kit.... Erin, I'm glad you enjoyed the swap . . . it is always so hard to imagine what someone you don't know will like. But you said you like purple . . . (by the way, for purple lovers, there is a web site that I almost used called The Purple Store. Then I found something fun in purple locally. I included a card that gave the theme of the swap, "It's Personal" because I imagined that with two boys and a DH that you hardly get any "me time." The purple pan (found at Marshalls with all kinds of other colors of pans) is just the size for you to cook a little something for yourself. You could have a cup of tea and a Lindt truffle. I hope you received the card because it is a reproduction of a piece of calligraphy that I painted that I thought you would enjoy. That is where my username comes from: Karigraphy = Karen + calligraphy. The boys got footballs with candy whistles inside because . . . ahem, I am from the city where the Steelers play! Sorry to any other teams out there. The can of corn: I could have sworn that you wrote in a post that your mother dumped a can of corn on your head when you complained about her dinner when you were a child. I thought it would be funny to threaten your kids with the same fate (in good humor). I got confused with the name BlueIris because there is someone on the kitchen renovation forum with that name, too, and I couldn't tell if you were the same person or not. What a wonderful package! I remember those toast racks, altho' I think we ended up using it for napkins as well! The bar set is tres chic, and I love the regional foods. I think those are often the coolest part of swap packages, but they get a run for their money in this one!

Beastly hot weather. Actually there was a breeze albeit a 90º one today. Spent the lion's share of it indoors. Packing stuff for our synagogue's tag sale next week, on the computer and... tah dah, reading the Pirates Pantry. What a very cool book (I'm old!); the ladies of the Lake Charles League spent 3 years writing, editing, and testing all the recipes and proof reading. So, I can confidently report that any failures will be all mine. The recipes include many from the hunting, camping afficianados to the home cook. Histories abound. Variations are many. I already learned that a roux, derivative of French for red, can be made in infinite ways including browning flour alone in an oven, cooking and draining off excess fat, can be stored for long periods in the refridge or freezer. Wow. I gonna be a gumbo maniac, but I will skip the squirrel and dove (pigeon) recipes. Not so keep on the game. But there is a very cool recipe for duck gumbo. Who woulda thunk? Will keep you informed of my progress as it occurs.

Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! We had one set of out of state relatives leaving and another set arriving and we were the main gathering place, so I apologize for not getting back here sooner!! Karen sent these vibrant place mats and matching dark red napkins - she must have read I want to redo my kitchen in rich Southwestern colors, and these will be a perfect addition.

She also sent this set of Caribbean recipes, complete with accompanying cd - I have neighbors who LOVE theme parties, so I can see handing each of them one of these recipes and putting the cd on and celebrating. I've never seen anything like this, it's a great idea.

This is the beautiful dish that Karen sent me that broke in the mail :( It is also perfect for my kitchen and Karen, I'm so sorry it broke.
Karen obviously did her homework and sent items that fit me perfectly - thank you so much for the wonderful, thoughtful package! I love it!

Awww, sorry about the breakage with the dish....it is just lovely! I love the colors in the placemats and the cookbook looks wonderful!!! Caribbean themed parties are so much fun! A great package, RR!!

Love the colorful placemats and napkins. I can never have enough of these! The cookbook looks so interesting and hope to see some recipes from it...hint..hint!

Oh dear...too bad the dish was broken, it's a beauty and with such a unique shape too!

Ooooh, I love the bright colors in thos placemats and napkins! Went well with the dish too (notice I said "went"...)! Sorry that beautiful dish was a casualty.

The Caribbean recipes will be fun to try. Can't wait for you to post that you are having a caribbean theme party!

Karen puts together a great swap box for sure! Trust me, I know!! Love the colorful placemats and napkins and I'm sure the cookbook has some great recipes that you can share with us. The covered dish is beautiful, I'm so sad to see it didn't make the trip(I sure hope it's insured by the shipper). Great package Karen!! I know Blueiris will enjoy all of it.

Ooooouuuuuuccccchhhh.....

Glad I paid for insurance fo my package to Susie. Not that it would have helped, that pitcher is a one-of-a-kind item. Amazing that as well as we package stuff, some gorillas still decide to play soccer with our boxes. Grrrrr....

Beautiful classic stuff. I know the bowl/cover will be a stunning addition to your presentation, when it gets straighted out!

What cool hot summer time items! I'd love to hear more about the Carribbean cook book. I looooove combining music with menus -- I used ot actually burn CDs for my dinner parties!
