Need help on picking out appliances!!!!!

We are getting ready to start a total remodel, but I need advice on picking out kitchen appliaces! Unfortanly, today our fridge died, so we had to buy one today. We bought a Maytag French Door Stainless Look Model: MFI2569VEA. We need a dishwasher, slide in gas range and ventilation unit (we are inclosing it with a decorative range hood). I would love to have professional grade appliances, but our budget will not allow it. So, I need appliances that work great and are dependable. Any help would be great!!

Word of advice. Skip the "professional" stuff and stick with plain old appliances. There is absolutely ZERO difference between the way a $6000 range cooks, and the way a $600 range cooks. My experience, as well as countless others, have confirmed this. It's interesting to note that some of the stuff you get on so-called "pro" stainless steel appliances is actually cheap aluminum junk that will warp and discolor after awhile. I have all-white appliances, easy to keep clean, easy to maintain, no messy fingerprints, and no worries about sharp metallic edges.

Good luck on whatever you choose. I've always had good experiences with Frigidaire(Electrolux) and Whirlpool appliances.

I, too, would have loved to have "professional grade" appliances, but not in my budget so....I thought long and hard about what I really wanted my appliances to do - i.e. convection or not in ovens, what do I want my microwave to do - how powerful or convection in that; dishwasher - my DH was insistent on VERY quiet and I wanted one that ran a 1/2 load or top load only and it also had to take an cabinet panel.

I share this only b/c once we decided on features of our appliances, I was able to search these forums for "quiet dishwasher" or in your case "slide in gas range" and for myself, found helpful guidance and direction relative to brands to research. Good luck and enjoy your new kitchen!

Just saw your post, hope this isn't too late. We're in a similar situation - new construction, narrowing down our appliance selection. We have a while yet, framing is barely underway. Our builder includes a $3500 budget (GE mid-range), not including fridge, and gets some very deep discounts from a local store that has beaten every online price I've seen by at least 15%. We are planning to add $3k - $4k of our own money (pre-tax) and get nice, functional, but not top-of-the-line stuff. Your selections are somewhat similar to ours so far. I've put our price (incl. builder discount) in parentheses. Fridge - Samsung RFG297AA ($1999) Oven - Frigidaire FGET3065KF ($1732) Cooktop - Kitchenaid KFGS366VSS ($907) Rangehood (ducted) - undecided, considering Broan RP230SS or similar, but I'm not sure I like the side intakes. Microwave - undetermined, but it won't be anything fancy. I only use microwaves for reheating non-meat leftovers, or thawing things before cooking them. Dishwasher - GE GDWF160RSS, so far. ($494) We have been planning this house for about 3 years, so I've done a fair bit of research - except for the wall ovens, since until very recently we had planned a single wall oven/micro combo. Selections seem to be pretty solid combos of performance, features and price.

Capital is a great brand - they have a new model about to ship - the Culinaire - there are a lot of threads on this forum about it - the 3K model is most likely the older precision line. 600 CFM is probably right for your situation. Broan is how it's spelled. A lot of people do like vent-a-hood but it doesn't have baffles like many hoods and some find it a lot harder to clean. With a hood make sure the ducting you have matches the size the hood needs - 6" or 8". Another good brand to look at is Kobe. KA makes good DWs. I have an 8 year old top of the line and am quite pleased with it.

We are remodeling our kitchen and am having a hard time deciding on a new fridge and an island cooktop. I do know I want a bottom freezer and have space to go up to 42". Always wanted SubZero but see lots of poor reviews. Unfortunately for the cook top I need a down draft and think I am limited to Jenn Aire. I do not have an unlimited budget so I am keeping most of my other appliances simple. Actually I do not see many good reviews for any new appliances. Thoughts.

Congrats on building your new home! Do you live a long way from a grocery store? If not, I don't know why you would need so much fridge/freezer space for at most 4 people on a regular basis, as you don't have to buy huge supplies of fresh and frozen items on every trip. Even when hosting gatherings, you may find space tight but there should be plenty with a 36" fridge/freezer. And I personally prefer single door fridge over bottom freezer instead of a french door fridge. As for a water dispenser, unless your tap water is lousy, I wouldn't bother. They take up valuable space otherwise. I'm partial to a 36" rangetop. I think that's the sweet spot wrt size. As for a griddle, that's personal preference. If you'd use it, then it's worth it. A 30" wall oven with a speed oven above it should satisfy your oven needs. But that depends on how much you bake. If you imagine gatherings where you're struggling to find oven space then perhaps two 30" wall ovens. Bosch makes great dishwashers. I don't know the difference btwn the two models you're considering, but I'm sure both will work well. However, do you really need two for a family of 4? Maybe you do, but it's worth really thinking through how often you'll use the specific appliances and sizes of appliances on a day to day basis.
