98% of Americans don't have a clue about what induction even is. So, I'd say that having induction isn't going to be a positive OR a negative for resale value. It'll be like a swimming pool. It's something you put in because YOU enjoy it and are willing to assume the costs and maintainence of operating it. And when you go to sell, your home won't sell for any more or less than your neighbor who didn't spend 50K for a pool. But, at least induction is a lot easier to switch out to a plain jane $400 electric smooth top (which a lot of people will confuse your induction with) and you can take it with you. Get what you want with no thought as to resale, because it won't make a hill of beans difference in your home's price.

I bought a house with induction and didn't know it (while we were writing up the offer the homeowner mentioned it). Of course, I bought the place knowing the kitchen needed to be gutted so it didn't matter one way or another.

But anyway, it won't sell your house to have, and nobody will know it's weird unless you tell them. If you don't tell them, don't leave your cookware (nobody really wants used cookware, no matter how nice) but leave the owner's manual somewhere prominent! Unless they give you a hard time with the inspection, and then hide the manual somewhere in the house and laugh about it. :)

I think it can, but I don't think an induction is likely to make a difference to enough buyers to even consider. The overall kitchen yes, but induction, not likely. Not having cooked on induction, I would see it as a possible plus but not be too keen on having to buy new cookware. And if you were willing to leave yours -- that would tell me you didn't love it enough for the cooktop to be something I should want.

On the other hand, having or being plumbed for gas -- we actually checked and ruled out houses that didn't have gas or a gas line when we bought our last house.

I would guess it's probably not an issue either way - but I'll bet there are a lot of people who don't know what induction is and might initially be a little scared off by it. I would leave it up to your realtor how to handle it - whether or not to advertise it as a plus or not mention it unless asked. I don't think I'd leave pots for them.

no difference at all...most buyers go by the visual impact of the kitchen...buil-in's larger ranges double ovens sell kitchens...the black piece of glass on your countertop will have no impact as long as it doesnt look like a piece of junk

No impact as long as its working and looks good. If people have a specific type or brand they want they usually are ready to put new appliances in. That said if you are planning to resale in the next year then you wouldn't want to put a $300 range in a million dollar house...keep it in line with expectations. Or if you are putting in something way over the top for the house price plan to take it will you and put something more appropriate in.

I do agree that gas would be a plus, but electric vs induction is a wash.

I would direct this question to a realtor in your area. Also ask them exactly what impacts resale value where you live.

I say this because where I live, an updated kitchen or bathroom does not impact resale value that much, so it becomes a waste of money and time trying to purchase based on future value. Better off getting what you want, use it, like or dislike it, and don't worry about it.

I once heard that a good way to increase the value of your home by $50,000 is to put a $100,000 kitchen in it :)

I've been having a similar question, wondering if getting an LP tank would be considered a positive because we'd have gas (as lascatx said) or a negative because people wouldn't want to deal with it.

I'm also contemplating induction, although it seems impossible to to find the perfect (domestic) model. If I go the induction route I'd consider it a benefit for my own use, not likely not for resale.

This gets said over and over on this forum but unless you're planning to sell in the next 2 years or so, GET WHAT YOU WANT!!! A particular appliance is not going to make a real difference - many people will redo what you put in anyway.
