Thanks Zep for your reply. I checked out the link you provided but not really anything on the installation. Guess I will just have to wait until I receive it and hope they have very good instructions. Hopefully it will be as you suggested and be like installing a service pack.

A couple of things you might find beneficial in Windows 7. The taskbar is twice as high as that pesky little Vista bar, very nice. No more Gadget sidebar but gadgets are available and you position them at will. When you open 3 or 4 tabs just one shows on the taskbar but as you hover over it they all show as thumbnails just above and you move to the one you want on top and click. Your wallpaper can now be a slide show of supplied or your own photos with many variable settings for change times.

The Windows Live OneCare probably will not be on the DVD but is downloadable for complete protection. This has only been available for a few days yet and I have it but cannot comment on how good it is after such a short useage time. This includes anti virus and anti malware all in one package and fully automatic. This also includes photo software that seems very similar to Picassa but I have not played with that too much apart from hovering over thumbnails which brings up a larger view of the photo in question.

For those who may be running the evaluation copy and are wondering about overwriting with the final version there is a hack on the link below. Phew! I imagined having to wipe Win7, install and validate XP then install Win7, oh happy day

just be aware that some of the features , including the xp virtual machine feature, will only be on certain of the Windows 7 versions. If you want those features make sure you get the appropriate version. there is a thread here about windows 7 you can search for that I had put a link to an article on how to know which versions had what and also how to get the better features on the lesser versions with a little know how.

When you filled out the order did you receive an e-mail confirming it. I filled out one to but I don't know if mine went through. I just got a new laptop with Vista and having a devil of a time with it.

No I haven't received my confirmation email yet but on my conformation after ordering it says your order has been submitted and is currently pending. However your order will not be complete until you submit a valid proof of purchase. Which I did right then. I am about to try and contact them about it.
And I agree I absolutely hate Vista, I have the worst time finding things on it.

I just checked by going through HP website. It then sends you to another site here is what my status is.
New = order placed, but proof of purchase not yet received.
POP Received = Arvato has received your proof of purchase, but not yet validated it.

I like XP better than Vista, but have Vista on my laptop and it's no problem after I set things to the classic look and found a few things like programs and features. I definitely don't like the file search change. I don't use my laptop, BIG waste of money.

Get ready for W7 if you hate XP. Which for the life of me I don't understand as things do change.

It will be based on Vista with the architecture focused on performance this time rather than on security. I have seen evaluations as high as 80% Vista repeat with 20% new features.

Remember the lifecycle for XP is ticking away. Not right away but it is in the horizon.

No, no I love XP have been using it for about five years. Had no problem going from Win2000 to XP. But Vista is a whole new issue.

there are ways to make vista more like xp you need to search google for "make vista like xp" you will find lots of tips and tricks. There are some threads here on GW that have posted several links to many of those so you can try doing a search here too.
