Trouble updating iTunes

I am having trouble updating iTunes on my desktop PC, Windows 7, 32 bit. I first tried to install with the installer that came up when I clicked update. So I tried to do it, as it suggested as solution, manually. This is the message I am receiving as it tried to install it:

The installer has insufficient privleges to access this directory C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\nb.lproj. The installation cannot continue Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator

Can you help me on this?

I had a problem with ITunes that I could not solve and called them. If you cannot get a solution here, you might try that. They were very nice to work with.

I wasn't clear enough. The tracks were all fine and would have played thru had I let them. However, I interrupted them by going to another track and then another after I listened enough to each one to satisfy my interest. While I was doing this, I soon realized that the tracks were disappearing as I clicked on the next selected track. This effect appeared to only happen with this album and in fact when I just now attempted to replicate more track loss, the remaining tracks would not disappear on this album either. Just before my initial post I had just checked that some random albums' tracks seemed to be complete and wouldn't disappear either. The lost tracks only occurred in one or two sessions with that one album. There is an extra issue. I have several cd albums that are listed under 'various' because the lead singer shared singing with some of her well known singing friends. This album is one of those, BUT I haven't lost tracks from a couple other 'various' albums I just checked (and had similarly scanned). If anyone knows where 'various' tracks go if they loose their association, they could be there I suppose. As usual, I hadn't thought to Google this issue until I posted. I found a 37 page active chat about this and similar track loss that began in 2009 and continues to the present. I suppose this could be a random general problem. I can always re-rip the cd but I was (and am) afraid that the problem will repeat. I am still wondering if I accidently clicked on some setting that hid the tracks so they wouldn't repeat and now should change a setting that will un-hide them.

I bought an IPod and ITunes came with it. I love ITunes and have not activated WMP since. I have never used sync, but have had a problem with some songs. I have never researched it but I think it has got something to do with the fact I don't have the CDs for the problem songs. Maybe ITunes is particular about the legal aspects. I have CD's for 98% of my songs and I can edit those and convert them to MP3s with no problem. The ones that had been copied are the problem. I don't use Libraries, didn't like those at all. I put a folder on the desktop like the old system used. BTW; The songs I had a problem were not copied by me. I bought a radio that was a return and someone had left the copied CD in it. Lots and lots of songs on it. It was titled "Mom's Songs" and they were mostly oldies.

Kudzu9: That's a good suggestion. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling FF, 48.0.2. And I do have a list of sorts that I can go by to reinstall my Add-ons, since my husband's computer has the same ones I did. Next time, I'll keep my own list, though, because, who knows, HIS PC could someday have the same problem mine does. Azinoh: That's news to me. Not sure when I updated FF. In fact, I thought I had done so several weeks ago, but then got a notice that it needed updating, so went ahead again. Wow, it's beginning to look more and more as if something is seriously wrong somewhere. FF has always been unreliable in its updating on my PC. (Perhaps a sign of a deeper problem somewhere.) I have it set to automatically update, and presume that the updates were coming from Mozilla, but it has been erratic in doing so. "Help>about FF" leads to a box that says "FireFox is up to date." Now, obviously a lie, but I believed it. I will reconsider the number of add-ons I have. The main ones were a pop-up blocker and IE View lite. Some, I know, I installed because a site I wanted to see required them (or it?), but when possible, I had set things so that the add-ons I didn't need often were temporarily disabled and had to ask permission. This is the second time I have had trouble with Scrapbook. I will definitely go check out the reviews of it; never did that, though I always check reviews before buying things! Hm. What I like about Scrapbook is that even if a site disappears from the Internet, whatever you have saved in Scrapbook is still accessible. With very important info, I generally copy and paste it into Word and save it as a document, but that is tedious. I appreciate all the comments and help and will post again re new developments.

I've never heard of anything named "banjour" having anything to do with iTunes. I just took a look through the iTunes program files and didn't see anything by that name. Every so often iTunes notifies my computer that there is an update to the program, and when I update, I've never lost any of my music. Besides, the music files don't reside within the iTunes program - they're on my hard drive in the Music folder. And, once you've paid for music through iTunes, you always "own" the music and can download it again. Oh, I have two separate iTunes libraries - one each for different devices that have different capacities and, therefore, a different selection of music. Neither has ever been adversely affected by updating iTunes. Yes, I know you're talking about completely deleting, not updating iTunes. I suggest you look at the files on your hard drive -- you should see that your music files are not within the program files for iTunes.

Can you right click on the installer and choose, "Run as administrator" ?

I have trouble each time there's an update. I found the solution on line at the Apple Forum. Just type your problem in the search bar.

It was a hassle and I have to go through it each time there's an update. Maybe because I'm using Windows and XP. Not sure.

Just make sure you back up your music before starting on the fix.

I just now got back to trying to updating iTunes to vs 12.. I have checked and I "am" logged in as administrator. There is no password. There is only one account on this computer. I can't click on the update and choose Run As Administrator......

I can't update....it goes clear thru the installation process, and then the error pops up with the message as before......

This is an Itunes program on Windows 7. I recently updated in September. In order to talk to apple for help, I will have to pay for it, I think.

I had a problem with the last itunes update, it was a launch itunes problem. I could not fix it with their instructions so I uninstalled and reinstalled it which did.

I have had problems with the last windows update and itunes updates. I have both set to not check for updates.

I was going to give you a link on Apple's support site, but I see you've already posted the same thing over there.

Another post on that same thread also recommended reinstalling iTunes, besides the original poster's install steps there.
