is it only on one page or one post? if someone has posted a long url or a large picture it can cause that to happen it is not your fault it has just caused the screen to have to accommodate the size.

tell us how this is happening and if it is every single thing and every page or just where and when it is happening and which browser are you using?

It is on all pages and I'm using Firefox.This just happened today upon opening and going to Gardenweb , where it's very noticeable, with the need to navigate side to side to read ALL the posts. Then, I noticed it on all the sites I visited.

Try using another browser (IE,Opera etc) and let us know if you have the same problem.

If you do have the same problem on the other browsers then I suspect that your display/resolution has changed somehow.

Does your mouse have a scroll wheel? If so, pressing the Ctrl key whilst rotating the wheel will change the page size.

If this is happening .. using different browsers, it Has to be that somehow you have changed your Resolution settings.

I don't know whether you are on xp or vista but, you need to go to your Display page and adjust your resolution settings.

Try holding down the CTRL (or Control) key and tap the minus sign key.

If it were just a CTRL + or - problem, it would not be happening across all browsers. Plus, once you have gone away from a paticular page .. the other pages would be normal.

I still think that it is a resolution problem.

You need to know the resolution required for the monitor if it is an LCD screen before changing it.

In XP right click on the desktop and click Properties. In Vista right click the desktop and click Personalise.

Some screens have some buttons or wheels at the bottom or along the sides that one can use to adjust various properties.

if you do have the buttons along the edge of your monitor at the bottom it sometimes happens that you hit one by accident and it can cause a change, most will have an auto set button there, you can hit that and it should reset it to default settings. I know I am guilty of hitting the wrong button there when aiming for the off button on the monitor.
Is this an lcd flat monitor or a crt monitor?

you say the page is showing bigger, is the font size of the text bigger? if so you could have somehow changed the font settings in the pc or even the DPI settings.

The text runs past the right side of the page , off the screen , necessitating moving the arrows to read the text.
I've tried all of the above( the recommendations I understand)and nothing has worked so far. I still have to slide the right hand arrow to read that side of the page text.

You never reported back if you can adjust the page size in, say, Firefox, by using the Ctrl and minus key.

again is the size of the actual font size of the text bigger than it was??? that info is very important to know what exactly has changed. It is difficult to assist if we do not get direct answers to the questions. LCD or CRT monitor?

Right click anywhere on the desktop and choose properties to get to your display settings and then the advanced button will take you to your DPI setting adjustments. As Owbist stated you need to know what is the proper resolution setting for your particular monitor to know where to set the slider.
Tell us which things you have tried so we know what has not worked for you.

Try this:
Go to Desktop & Right click on empty space,
Click on Properties, then Settings,
Then Change Screen Resolution.

Hi raven.
Monitor is an old flat screen, most likely before LCD. Font doesn't seem to have changed and settings show "normal" at 96DPI. That much I can tell, but I still have to slide my arrows from side to side to read the entire page . With the arrow "bar " at the far left of this page, I am cutting off about an inch of text on the right hand side of the page. Sliding the bar to the right enables me to read that side of the text........annoying.

Then I would definitely see what the resolution setting is on and try moving the slider a bit at a time to see if it helps.

salbwil, you are using Firefox? Recheck >View>Zoom> and try 'Zoom text size only' both checked and unchecked. I see your problem on some pages on some sites if 'zoom text size only' is checked. It doesn't seem to matter what the text size is. It appears some pages just don't like that option checked.

Also, scanning through this interesting thread it is not obvious to me that you have tinkered with the hardware setting on or around you monitor. They are sometime buttons and sometimes wheels and they are sometimes obvious and sometimes not so obvious.

I have done what owbist originally suggested and that seems to be working now .....using the CTRL and the - keys. ....at least on these forums ; the font is smaller , but everything fits on the page and the bar is all the way to both sides of the screen. I know I'm not saying that correctly, but you understand what I'm trying to say, I'm sure.
