trouble instaling old microsoft picture it

I have an emachines desktop about a year and a half old. I don't know the tec. stuff, if thats important for answering my question please ask and I will find it and post. I had Microsoft picture it photo premium edition 2001 on my old computer, when I got my current computer I installed it. I had some problems with my PC and had to do a restore, after that I could not find the disk for it and have now found it. when I try to install it I get a message

"setup was unable to install all the components. please close all applications and try running setup again."

so I click ok and get another message that said I did not have enough memory to install explorer 5.5 and I needed 90mb to install it, but I have explorer 7. Grrrr. so I went through and deleted a bunch of pictures and stuff. then I ran defrag. and my PC said that I have 122GB free.

any suggestions?

I had trouble installing Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2001 on my new pc. I explored the CD and searched for the setup icon for Picture It. When I clicked directly on the icon, I was able to install the software. Hope this helps.

I am assuming you are still running XP. I don't think your version of the software will work with VISTA at all.

I started with that very program and loved it. I now use Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 (it will do everything that PI2001 does and better) - but Microsoft will no longer be making this program - sad - it is so GOOD!

Hi scottspond, some how didn't think she would, Florida vs Manchester, no contest really ;-) The area I live in is New Mills, in High Peak in Derbyhsire. If it doesn't ring a bell, it's just past Lyme park, Buxton is about 2 miles away, Stockport 9 miles and Manchester 20 miles (all via road) Handily the railway station is about 5 mins away from my home, so trips to Manchester are pleasent through the countyside and don't require I use the car ;-) And in summer I get to hop on the odd steam trian, every boys dream. My Mancunian mates reckon I've gone "all posh" living here, as I was born and grew up in Fallowfield and went to school in Rusholme. Regards ChrisC.

There are lots of ways for Windows to become "corrupted" that have absolutely nothing to do with a virus or other malware. That's not to say that you didn't a some kind of infection and it's important to use software to protect your system. You also need to realize that tech support's solution to almost everything is to reinstall the operating system. Level 1 techs don't have the time or possibly the skill to diagnose every problem. So the pat answer is a fresh install. That's why it is so important to make regular backups of critical data. Invest in an external hard drive or use one of the online services like Mozy or Carbonite. If you are going to use an external device don't forget about multiple backups and offsite storage. All the backups in the world won't do you a bit of good if they are sitting next to the computer when the house burns down or a tornado strikes.

When I got my new computer last year (XP/sp2) I had read here about using a program included in asseccories called "Program Compatibility Wizard". I also wanted my old program "Picture It 2000" (still love and use it alot) on my new machine so instead of insalling via just the CD I went through the "PCW" and didn't have a problem at all. It works like a charm and infact better then on my old XP computer because of the extra ram my new one has :o)

I don't know if Vista has "PCW" so hopefully your running XP and that should work for you.
