have you been doing the latest updates for Adobe? if not you need to do them, it is a huge source of infection when not kept updated.

I would run an updated malwarebytes asap and also an online virus scan to make sure it got everything.
One of them is in your system restore files, these files do drop off in time so it will eventually drop out of your restore points, however if after you are certain it is cleaned you can clear your restore points and begin fresh, this will of course eliminate all your restore points, We always wait to do this till the very end of cleaning processes in case a restore point will be needed.

Thank you Raven. I followed your advice but ran into a problem. System Restore was shut off and something called 'Roxio Go Back' is saving old files and setting dates. When I tried to turn on System Restore a warning came up telling me I cannot run System Restore and 'Go Back.' I can't find a way to empty Go Back or shut it off. It gives no options to empty. I'm wondering if I should uninstall Go Back and just use System Restore.

hopefully someone with some knowledge of that program will respond, I do not have any experience with it.

I didn't even know it was there. Never heard of it. Came on the netbook and seems to replace System Restore. Maybe I'll just get rid of it. Check your netbook and see if you have Roxio in your program list.

I am a big fan of GoBack. Unfortunately it is not made for newer Operating systems like Vista, so I only have it on my older machines. Do not un-install it: if you do you are taking away the chance to fix this problem easily, and doing so will not create any old, regular System Restore points.

GoBack works by creating its own set of restore points which actually include a complete image of your entire disc at different recent times. If you pick a point that is prior to the virus infection, it will be like going back in a time machine as it will simply restore the whole machine to the state it was on that date. One caution: it will undo anything you did in the period since the restore point, so if you have documents or photos created after the restore point, or new software installed, that will also disappear, but it should definitely solve your virus problem. If you have something important that is recent and on your hard disk, just transfer a copy to a flash drive and then invoke GoBack. It usually only allows you to go back several weeks, so if you have had the virus a long time, this won't work for you, but it saved me many times when I had a virus or a new software install that messed up my machine. Good luck.

I would just leave them in the virus vault and not worry with the restore points, they do disappear after a time and are replaced by newer ones so it would not be a problem unless you tried to go back in time to when it had the infection prior to that restore point being over written.

Zep, I have been haunted this week with Trojans. The first shot was my office machine which AVG picked up during the daily scan. That computer is 5 yrs old and came with Norton which I removed years ago.

My later post was my netbook which AVG caught 17 Trojans after my son used it to go on Facebook.

I'm concerned because I use the same protection on all my computers and have never had anything except tracking cookies. Now two machines turn up with Trojans which are in my system restore. I use my computers for personal,private information such as banking, shopping, etc. I hope AVG caught them all. Malwarebytes turned up nothing.

If the GoBack is properly installed and was not disabled by some user on the computer, there are a couple of ways to access its function. If you're on the computer and you click the GoBack program icon or Startup listing, it should give you options to go back to an earlier date. Also, if it's enabled, you should have a GoBack screen that comes up for about 10 seconds each time you boot-up, and you can access it during that time. If it's not available either of these ways, then something is wrong with the install or it's been disabled.

this is exactly why I preach hard on the dangers of facebook, I have seen more computers have to be formatted due to facebook than anything else, it is a hackers playland and dreamworld. I do not ever go to facebook, not even on my linux machines that is how much I dislike it.
Social networking sites were set up for one reason only to be data miners, you do not get much for free these days and believe me you do pay for being on facebook and other social networking sites. They are there strictly for one reason they can gather tons of info by using their "freebie" format. So when people wonder why they get a ton of spam, well likely someone you know is on facebook and got their entire addy book harvested. Plus of course all the infections that are everywhere. Those 3rd party apps can be written by anyone! with anything included in them.
