Sites that bring viruses

My teenage grand daughter moved in with me recently. Since she has been using my computer, I've started to have problems: ie. not booting up, not shutting down (literally had to pull the plug), warnings about potential threats, etc. She admitted visting Myspace, lord knows what other sites she may be visiting. My question, what are the sites most known for viruses, trojans or whatever that can cause computer malfunctions?

I don't know that there's a comprehensive list of sites that can infect you. In fact, if there were such a list, it would be outdated as soon as it got created.

I would suggest creating an account for your granddaughter to use that doesn't allow her to install any software. Then password protect the default account so that you can still use it, but she can't. That may seem harsh, but it protects your computer.

Bpgreen has a good idea but I suspect your grand daughter is a lot more savvy than you are regarding computers and may know how to get around anything you set up. Another thought is to have the computer in the main living room where the family congregates if it not already there. If she, or you, complains about not having sound because the TV is o then provide a headset. Being in the living room helps control where she might visit knowing others may be watching the screen.

The other side of the issue of course is that if you become too restrictive then she can visit friends whose parents do not control what happens on a computer.

Viruses may in turn interfere with this system by producing RNA silencing suppressor (RSS) proteins; most RSSs bind to viral small interfering RNAs (siRNAs). We previously reported that ascorbic acid (AsA) has the ability to interfere with the binding between viral siRNAs and viral RSSs in vitro. We thus expected that AsA-treated plants would show some tolerance to virus infection because the host PTGS will be strengthened by AsA. Brassica rapa subsp. rapa was inoculated with Turnip mosaic virus and treated with the AsA derivatives, l(+)-ascorbic acid 2-sulfate disodium salt dihydrate (AsAÃ¯Â¿Â½Ã¯Â¿Â½"SO4), l(+)-ascorbyl palmitate (AsAÃ¯Â¿Â½Ã¯Â¿Â½"Pal) and dehydroascorbic acid (DHA) at 1 h postinoculation. The number of infection sites on inoculated leaves decreased by around 40 % after AsAÃ¯Â¿Â½Ã¯Â¿Â½"SO4 and AsAÃ¯Â¿Â½Ã¯Â¿Â½"Pal treatments and by 80 % after DHA treatment compared with the untreated control. As evidenced by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, viral accumulation was significantly reduced after regular sprays with the AsA derivatives and DHA. In a detached leaf assay, AsA clearly functioned as a viral inhibitor in cells. Additionally, we confirmed that DHA also worked in the silencing pathway because its antiviral effect was not observed in the silencing-defective double mutant dcl2/dcl4 of Arabidopsis thaliana. I haven't seen any difference either, Harry. As a matter of fact, I don't think the virus a couple of my roses have makes any difference at all with them. I have other roses of the same cultivars that don't have virus that grow and bloom just like the virused ones. I won't use the virused roses for any hybridyzing or propagating, but just for garden looks I think they are fine. Some folks have even commented that the virus patterns on the leaves of infected plants looks pretty cool. Brian, I recently had a similar problem. Go to the link below and click Support Forums at top of page. Click Spyware Specific and read the first post by chaslang who is one of the Major Geeks. There is a long list of things to do and they take time. It is worth doing for it will clean your son's machine. At the end, you will download hijackthis, save the log and send to chaslang. you need to try to undo the problems she has likely done already and get your pc cleaned up asap.
what antivirus and antispyware programs are you using and are they updated?

Good free ones to use are superantispyware and malwarebytes

always hit the update button before running scans, also get spywareblaster on that pc asap to help keep any of that stuff from getting on in the first place, you have to remember to open it and hit update once a week then hit the enable all protection button so the shield is green.

definitely set up a limited user account for her to use and password protect your admin account with a very strong non sense password that she will not guess! Kids do not need to be running at anytime under admin!
start> control panel> user accounts> create new account limited user account.

If you are seeing pop ups saying you have infections I would bet money you have been infected with the dreaded antivirus xp infection, that is a very very nasty infection. Anytime you see any pop up warnings be very careful about clicking on them, often they are tricks to get you to click and when you do you are installing the malware.

Run those scans and go run this online scan too.
