Marble backsplash on mirror. How high?

So the base of our vanity is being installed tomorrow and then we have to have the carrara marble templated for the countertop and the backsplash. Our set up is similar to this picture and I'm curious how high you think that marble backsplash is that leads up to the mirror? Ours will be similar with a mirror between the towers. Also our countertop will have an eased edge do you do the same with this part of the marble?

That looks like the convention of about 4" in the picture...maybe you could go 6" to reduce splashing--or you could go all the way to the counter if you don't mind cleaning the bottom of the mirror. I probably would not ease the top of the splash, I think I would want a straight edge-to-straight edge relationship between the marble and the mirror.

I personally really like the look of boundary to boundary mirror like this (whatever the boundary may be). That is a great looking set up in your sample picture. One of my favorite small powderrooms has a counter to ceiling wall to wall mirror with a chandelier hanging in front of it. I think its clean and timeless, not d---- like some people like to call it:)

My RH vanity has a 3" high marble backsplash with an edge that mirrors the countertop. (I am not quite certain of the name of the edge. It's quite flat/square with just barely rounded corners.) I would agree with palimpsest that the inspiration picture is probably 4".

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I can't take the credit for the design though. I had admired the glass mosaic work of a local artist at a fundraising Showhouse at the Shore. It turns out she had trained in Italy and also did marble mosaics. I told her that I wanted an all over floral mosaic in neutral colors. She did a spectacular job. Her website is www.custommosaicdesign.com Although she has been doing mosaics for many years, she is now just making it her profession instead of a hobby. Thanks for the ideas. It looks kind of bare to my eyes so I am glad to hear that it looks okay as is. I love the idea of a reverse color border-I hadn't thought of that. I also like the idea of leaving as is. Someone walked off with my tile saw and I don't feel like buying a new one. I kind of assumed that backsplashes always had tile. If you guys think it doesn't look unfinished-I may leave it. I have enough 4x4 to do 2 or 3 rows across the bottom but I can always use them in another place. I do have issues with splatters on the wall since that seems to be where I do all my prep work (not on the butcher block like I planned). And although this house is not a flip-I am always looking for a fixer upper with great bones AND basement so I always do things as if I may sell at any time. I think I'll tape the 4x4s to cardboard tomorrow so I can your opinion. They are really pretty; I just don't know if they will add anything. Someone asked about paint. It is Benjamine Moore Aura line in the color Tumeric. The Aura paints are fabulous-they are so worth the extra money. Low VOC, self-priming, scrubbable and have a recoat time of 1 hour. I know I sound like a paint ad but this line is unbelievable. I am in the process of painting my whole house (1 more room to go) and I LOVE this paint. didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )

How high to run a backsplash in a bathroom with an oval mirror?

I ended up switching my mirrors to square ones because of this. I think if the tile went behind the mirror, instead of around, it might work with just a straight line stopping point but I really don't know. Seems like no one else did either!
